Description
Penultimate Varjak illustration. (or second to penultimate... not quite decided yet...Varjak has stopped doing his power-up *shock @__@* and is following the dog, Cludge to a secret underground city full of mice with his friends where he hopes to find sanctuary from hard-core gang leader Sally Bones... the text says they had to be careful where they trod because of broken glass lying underneath the thick mists.
Indian ink and pooter (computer) shading.

Of all the characters in Varjak Paw, I think Cludge was my favorite, I've been enjoying your illustrations of the book.

I like the lines. I would have had the tendency to keep adding lines like shading but you added just enough.

Yellow would look uber-awesome, you are right, but these are meant to be black and white... I agree it needs something tho... will try and add white swirls to the grey to see if it improves it...

I hope that didn't sound too defensive... it's just that it wouldn've been printed on the same quality of paper as most paperbacks that don't normally have pictures in... i've seen examples of this where they've tried to reproduce watercolours in black and white and it really doesn't work well.

You can use halftones, getting a wide range of values using only one color, But that might look too comicbooky.

Or the way it would be hypothetically printed rather...

I love the ink lines and the shapes. I miss the real world textures though. I betcha if you replaced the computergrey with a water-color grey back ground or acrylic grey background it would really come alive

But alas, it would not reproduce well at all with the cheap printing processes that they use on books such as this... I was thinking of adding some mist-like swirls into the background grey though... that might improve it I think...
