Description
Ok here it is, my planet tutorial. Its not really the way i make my planets. But this is also a very simple way to make a nice planet in less than 10 minutes, i hope it helps some of you. If there are any questions no problem just ask.Comments and favs are welcome, view at FULL view
EDIT
I think the most mistakes (grammar ...) are changed: Thx to ~SatyrsFaction give him some credit

I've always wondered how they put together those planetary scenes, and the fact that a lot of artists are so jaded about them made me assume that there was some kind of trick to it beyond just spending days on end with the airbrush.
So, you said that you do more than that for your projects. Say if I wanted to get more advanced, would I overlap other sections of the planet with different textures to create oceans/cityscapes/etc. detail it in with the brush, and then throw in some difference clouds for the atmosphere (all in their own layers of course with the sphere marquee)? The reason I ask is because I want to get a good general idea of the process, and sorry for being so longwinded.

Your tutorial can also be used to create glowing spheres. Just skip the shadow step and play around with the opacity of the effect layer. I tried it today and added the sphere to one of my wip pictures.
Thanks for this neat tutorial. ^-^

I have a better idea for the shadow part. When you do the circular marquee, make a gradient as the shadow. it makes a lok more sense.

Don't mind much to what people say...
Hev'e got some real points, but shall not talk with someone he doesn't know this way.
Well, I'm much older than you and I like this tutorial and it's going to be useful for me as I'm sure it was and is going to be to a lot of people. It's very very simple. And it's good. So, when I find these two things together I call the work (or whatever) an intelligent one.
I write poems and poetries and I make mistakes also. It's not a question of intelligence. Just have to pay a little more attention.
Thanks for the tutorial

This tutorial, frankly, is awful. A majority is largely unintelligible from blatant misspellings and very faulty grammar. If you think the phrase, "The first what we gone do is search a good texture," is standard English, then something is very wrong. I understand you're not a native English speaker, but I myself speak multiple languages, and do not make misspellings in my learbed languages any more than I do in my native English. If I were submitting, as DA calls it, "a polished work," in any language, I would have it proofread beforehand to catch those few errors. What credibility do you have if every sentence has a word misspelled and poor grammar? Augh; I counted them, to prove my point. You have 23 words misspelled in seven paragraphs...I can't even count how many times you've made very large grammatical errors.
Considering the fact that the most prominent tutorial for planets, that of *sirgerg, is not only easier, but produces better results in every way (and is almost entirely typo-free, as opposed to repeatedly misspelling the same words), I find little reason for this tutorial to be of any use. If you're going to submit your version of a tutorial, make sure yours has something fresh to add, so that people have a reason to prefer it. Your statement that you yourself do not use the method described makes me further leery to indulge myself and test it. If you don't think it's good enough to use, why should I? I think it's wrong to submit something of shoddy calibre, honestly, because it simply encourages new users to fall into the habit of using shoddy methods.
I've taken the time and the liberty to detail a few of the problems I see right off the bat.
You haven't provided us with a texture or told us what an ideal one would be like, so it's basically a guessing game for anyone new enough to need a tutorial.
The lighting curve is WAY off. Not only should the brush you're using for the shadow be almost double the size of the planet, the crescent of illuminated surface cannot physically extend even halfway around the circumference. Here, you've got it going most of the way around. Lowering the opacity of the shadow to 90% blows my mind. Why would you do that? It's dark for a reason, that reason being that there is no light there. It's not correct, and it doesn't even look better.
The colors and texture you picked for the example, which ought to be an example of the absolute best results possible, are dreadfully ugly. If most peoples' results don't look as good as the tutorial's example, statistically, then sweet Jesus, I'm not using this. I want a tutorial that shows me a good color combination or two right off the bat, so I'm hooked. Honey, not vinegar
Lastly, the planet isn't even spherized properly. 100% is not 100 percent spherical, it's 100 percent of the filter's capabilities. Roughly 150% is the correct amount, give or take 10. The defining aspect of a planet is its roundness, so I'm not sure if there's anything that can redeem the pancakes this tutorial is going to make.
I'm truly sorry I have to be so hard on this. When someone releases a tutorial that they clearly put very little effort into making, I'm disgusted. Don't let the flood of praise (that any submission gets, deserving or otherwise) lull you into a false sense of greatness. There's nothing great here; it's shoddy, and it's nothing we haven't seen a million times before.

Dude. This makes the second time today I've crossed work that has a worthless rant by you in it. Since you are the God of art I'd like to petition you with the idea of making some artwork that backs up all the smack you talk. This whole rant was unessesary and it sorely disgusts me as an artist and a deviant art community member to see garbage like this... You went off on a 13 year old who doesn't hold english as a primary language on issues you harshly, pointlessly blast him over that had already been constructively addressed... It doesn't matter how you try to excuse your actions... this is pathetic. I'd advise going back to the drawing board and rethinking just how highly you think of yourself and understand the difference between the knowledge you have and the knowledge you think you have, because you're starting to show through.
Congrats... another open mouth insert foot moment for Sean... Funny thing is I don't see anything professional or ethical about the way you handle anything, so it would be a great thing if you didn't preach to people about what it takes to convey information professionally.
On to a deviation where I hope not to run into this type of garbage...
Good grief, I can't believe I just wasted my time...

You are right about the grammer and the misspellings and i have read it a few time and correct some mistakes but i know i cant find them all. I dont know how old you are, but i'm 13 and could you write on your 13th a tutorial in another langues? Maybe, but i dont know much people like that. I will do my best to correct the most misspellings .
I made this one because a few people ask me to. And thats the simplest way to make a simple planet (for a beginner) You can make much more detailed planets etc. but i wanted to make a simple tutorial for those who need it.
There are probable many mistakes in this explanation but i try the to my best ...

He's 16 bro... not to far off... Take comments like these with a grain of salt. Some people don't understand what it means to be a plausible part of the art community... It takes integrity and a constructive attitude to make a difference... This is a good case in point. That comment was not constructive, nor was it even done in the realm of integrity. The problems had already been dealt with in a constructive manner. His words were unnessesary and for that I apologize. Unfortunately he doesn't get it. Somewhere though I hope he does.
I was looking through some deviations decided to take a look at this and I find this worthless rant in the middle of constructive comment, commendation, and critique about the grammar. I do apologize... Thank you for the time and thought put into this tutorial.

You are very welcome. My point is issues can be dealt with in a constructive tone and manner... If I feel impressed to critique I don't snowball the person with nothing but negativity spewing out of my mouth. There is a balance to critique. Positives and negatives... If you can not see both then it's best not to comment at all. The only reason I snapped at this is because I saw this deviation, decided to check into it and then began to read the comments and I find this junk... Basically trashy, waste of time comments should be labeled as such, especially when someone is practically being attacked without the "attacker" really knowing what the situation is. This is the second time I've seen a comment from sean today. This hasn't been the first time seeing his commentation either, so I was prompted to read when I saw a post from him. Seriously wish I hadn't now.
Do expect sean to address me though... he will.
Sorry for the disturbance, nonetheless... It won't happen again. Hehe.

I must add, that hiding behind your age isn't going to get you anywhere in life. If you write one failure off as "hey, I'm only ____," then you're setting a lackadaisical precedent for yourself. If you make excuses, you haven't done your best. How hard is it to have someone proofread your work?

It isn't the simplest way - As I've stated, Greg Martin (*sirgerg)'s method is simpler, offers better results, and was released over a year ago.
