Description
Ok here it is, my planet tutorial. Its not really the way i make my planets. But this is also a very simple way to make a nice planet in less than 10 minutes, i hope it helps some of you. If there are any questions no problem just ask.Comments and favs are welcome, view at FULL view
EDIT
I think the most mistakes (grammar ...) are changed: Thx to ~SatyrsFaction give him some credit

This tutorial, frankly, is awful. Most of it is largely unintelligible, from blatant misspellings and very faulty grammar. Considering the fact that the most prominent tutorial for planets, that of *sirgerg, is not only easier, but produces better results in every way.
You haven't provided us with a texture or told us what an ideal one would be like, so it's basically a guessing game for anyone new enough to need a tutorial.
The lighting curve is WAY off. Not only should the brush you're using for the shadow be almost double the size of the planet, the crescent of illuminated surface cannot physically extend even halfway around the circumference.
The colors and texture you picked for the example, which ought to be an example of the absolute best results possible, are dreadfully ugly. If most peoples' results don't look as good as the tutorial's example, statistically, then sweet Jesus, I'm not using this.
Lastly, the planet isn't even spherized properly. 100% is not one-hundred percent spherical, it's 100% of the filter's capabilities. Roughly 150% is the correct amount, give or take 10. The defining aspect of a planet is its roundness, so I'm not sure if there's anything that can redeem the pancakes this tutorial is going to make.
I'm truly sorry I have to be so hard on this. When someone releases a tutorial that they clearly put very little effort into making, I'm disgusted that they believe that I should

digitalplasma, i don't know what your fucking problem is, but if you're gonna start flaming someone for doing some great work and helping other people learn to draw something new and exciting by REQUEST, pick on someone your own age for christs sakes!
inventor is 13 and likely has had little help with english, so lay off him! If you WANT to get banned for being a total asshole, be my fucking guest! You're acting like the child here, not inventor. he has every right to try and help others, and you have everyright to give advice good or bad, but you have gone WAY to far with this, and I hope that others see what a total asshole you are.
Inventor, I hope you get many GOOD and appropriate comments for this tutorial, and all your artwork. You are amazing, this tutorial is really helpful for beginners (like me) and deserves far better treatment than this dickwad above me has been giving you. great stuff, keep it up!!
<<s: I'm sorry for my rude language everyone(except 'digitalplasma'), I needed to get my point across.>>

Well I see spelling is not the forte of anyone around here, and frankly, I'm not going to take the time to read any more of these comments. Don't call me a dickwad, then tell me that I'm going to get banned for constructive criticism. Every point I made was legitimate, and you have no ground to stand on. I haven't violated any rules, and I'm not going to be banned.

yeah it may be constructive, but you might as well be saying 'you suck' to inventor. i don't see a spell check anywhere, so don't judge me. you may not get banned on these grounds, but with an attitude like yours, I'm sure you will enventually.

DigitalPlazma In reply to DragonTalon666 [2004-07-19 21:04:57 +0000 UTC]
I see a spell check. In fact, I see several, including Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop, and that thing called a dictionary. People spelled words correctly before the advent of such software, so don't even try to tell me that without a conveniently located spell-it-for-you, you can't do it. That's lazy, and that's lame.
As for my attitude, I have no problem. I'm irritated by the fact that I'm supposed to try to use something that's largely illegible; something that is clearly neither refined nor polished.
"A deviation is a polished, refined, and completed work of art - something you want to showcase, to exhibit."
If you're not going to make the effort to fix something before submitting it, don't expect other people to make the effort to use it. It's not just my attitude, it's the attitude of a lot of other people. I can assure you, I will never be banned. I post helpful, constructive criticism, and often provide the only brutally honest words amid a sea of "WOAH MAN THAT ROX MY SOKS LOL!!!!!11 ^.^"

I admit, I prefer NOT using spell checks in word when Iβm typing something up on the web, that doesn't make me lazy.
I am not the one on trial here, so don't try and be pointing out my faults.
Inventor thought he was doing people a favor by posting this, that's why it's here.
Why would you use it anyway when you know of another that you feel is better? Why would you post this ' constructive criticism β of yours when you know that you have another place to look? Inventor has done a great thing by putting up this tutorial, and Iβm fairly certain Iβm not the only one to notice this.
Say what you want about the βbanningβ thing, I have no more to say to you regarding this. Just because you can type legibly and use grammar like someone in grade 10 doesnβt mean everyone else, even foreigners, can do the same thing. Just because people from the states and Canada are expected to know English, doesnβt mean we should expect everyone else to! Just because so many people type things like, as you so bluntly put it βWOAH MAN THAT ROX MY SOKS LOL!!!!!11 ^.^β doesnβt mean you have to type a huge paragraph on the same deviation meant solely to put someone down and make fun of them! Sure, I may not be the best at spelling or grammar myself, but I can read this tutorial and understand it as though I was the one who wrote and spell checked it. Just because YOU canβt understand it, doesnβt mean other people donβt.
If you want proof of other people, other amazing artists, using this tutorial and loving it, I can provide you with a few!

Yes, not spell-checking your work because you don't feel like it does make you lazy. I'm sorry, but it does. It's not that you prefer to misspell, it's that you prefer not to take the time to load up MS Word and paste it in. However, my point is not specifically targeted at you; rather, it is generalized. If you don't feel like proofreading your own "contributions" to the community, I don't particularly feel like hailing them as that.
I agree...this is not about you. Back on topic.
Your very argument that I have no reason to critique a tutorial when I use another is at best faulty. I critique many works - some in my own field of expertise, some outside; some tutorials and resources I do use, some I don't. I think I have the right to post constructive criticism wherever I so choose, ergo the public comment form. My post is entirely constructive criticism. It's blunt, but it's not "You're an idiot...anyone with half a brain can spell." I pointed out the honest truth as I see it, in terms of this work specifically, and this kind of work in general. Whether or not you choose to listen is an entirely different matter, but I've every right to make suggestions.
I don't expect anyone to know English (despite the fact that more and more countries in the world expect children to begin learning at an early age, so as to prepare them for the international business world). However, when you're publishing a tutorial specifically catering to English-speakers, credibility is lost very quickly when there are errors around every corner. I think there's a big difference between the awkward manner in which foreigners tend to speak, and the grammar we see here. It's not the wrong sentence structure...it's the wrong words, and they're misspelled. If you're catering to an English-speaking audience, then you've failed, honestly, when there are that many errors.
Errors aside, the main purpose of my post was to help inventor out. The majority of said post deals with problems in the tutorial (which there are also a lot of). Analogous to the English issue, if you're creating something in a world where there are already several well-made tutorials, it's difficult to find proponents when yours has nothing new to offer. Factor in the loss of credibility, and it's difficult to conceive why, if I had a choice, I would choose this tutorial over the others.
All I'm saying is, there are multiple problematic aspects of the tutorial which must be addressed if it's ever going to improve. It's easy to confuse honesty amid flattery for obloquy.

Thank you for a very helpful and visually powerful tutorial.
If you don't mind some helpful criticism, I think it's a pity that such a stunning looking piece as this is let down by such third rate language. When you first see it, it's mind-blowing but then you only have to look at it for about ten seconds before the spelling mistakes start jumping out at you, and then you start reading it and think, for such a visually beautiful piece, couldn't he have just cared a little about it, and taken the extra minute or two to read it before posting?
Next time you do one, I can help you with the language if you need it. I hope this is taken in its intended spirit, as I would like people to help me by telling me where I can improve.

Any time at all !!
Just let me know, because it would give me pleasure to be able to help.
I'm not very good at a lot of things, but spelling and grammar is one thing I CAN do well.
And again may I say how stunning the visuals are on that tutorial !!

Very good tutorial! Very good! The only problem are errors in the English Language...I can help you on that if you like, I do not mean to offend you by saying this
And you don't have to feel foolish, english can be a very difficult language to learn, and since english (I am guessing, I apologize if I am wrong ^^') is not your first language, I say you're off to an excellent start!
