EDIT

I think the most mistakes (grammar ...) are changed: Thx to ~SatyrsFaction give him some credit

This isn't really new. It doesn't offer deviants anything other then what Greg Martin and Dinyctis did. Maybe it will help new people, but I still think Greg Martin's tutorial suits that purpose better.

meta474 [2004-06-15 22:55:49 +0000 UTC]

No offense, dude... But how did this get a daily deviation? There're dozens of planet tutorials out there, so it rules out originality... it's not really that fantastic, so that rules out supreme quality... ?!

I mean, it's a good effort dude, and a fairly good tutorial... but why the daily deviation?

Seikin In reply to meta474 [2004-06-15 23:36:13 +0000 UTC]

think it could be due to the fact that anyone can understand what he is saying? its all good if a tutorial works but if people dont know wtf your telling them to do then its useless

meta474 In reply to Seikin [2004-06-16 00:20:36 +0000 UTC]

the 92349239423949 other planet tutorials are just fine in that regard. Especially Greg Martin's (Evidenced through it's wide wide wide use (some might prefix a mis-)

well i cant really say this is the first ive seen but if people dislike this one as a DD then they should direct the administrators to people more diserving of it and then those would get the DD if they are better actualy from what i can tell this one isnt the simplest thing in the world he could have went into a little more detail but its the first ive seen so i dunno

You know something's overused when you're writing a tutorial on how to make it.

well the planets may not end up looking professionally done, but i've never done planets before so this is good start for me.

If you ask me, if your making planets in 10 mins then you shouldn't be making space art.

i don't know what the code is for the applause emoticon, but consider yourself applauded. The thing that emphasises that is the pull-out planet greg posted, it's a pity a lot of people don't go into such depth.

yeah you've done it and i think dynictis has, but that idiot gets a DD. thats what happens when you let noobs pick DD

I think this tutorial is unique, and the person above doesn't know what they're talking about - that's a link to an image made by following the tutorial. Not a link to another tutorial.

Okay, okay, I didn't say you were wrong... the other person just didn't understand the question, they never made this tutorial, they only followed it. o.O

this is really great man, I was wondering just last night how ppl made these planets in PS. I was wondering if you knew any (or if not you could make one ) good tutorials for making stars and stellar dust like the bg you have on this? Congrats on the DD too!

bluekipod [2004-06-15 20:57:44 +0000 UTC]

whoever owns a plantarium softaware, (such as "starry night" which i happen to have..) can find REAL maps of planets from our solar system in the softwares installed file in program files, which the program uses as textures to render real looking 3D planets. so making planets with those can be truly great.

lilmissmaya [2004-06-15 20:42:37 +0000 UTC]

just wondering.. how do you make the texture files for photoshop? I just have elements but it worked for me... I wanted to make soem fabric textures becasue I'm lazy and it's easier that drawing the patterns out each time...

I dunno about this one. I don't think the end product is really up to par. If someone wants to make a good planet, they're gonna have to do alot more work than this. I think it would work for very small moons and planets in an image, but for anything of any decent resolution, you'd have to put alot more into it.

i know but i wanted to make a simple tutorial for beginners and this is a simple way to make a plnet (in less than 10 minutes)

nuformz In reply to Inventor [2004-06-16 02:55:24 +0000 UTC]

is true.

the next step is to make a detailed tutorial for those that already know the basics.

Or maybe I'll do that.....

Well, thats a really nice tutorial. (Despite a few complaints I see just in the first page of comments...)

Still, is very simple and easy to follow allong. Specially for us Photoshop dummies who are still scared to mess around with the tools.
