Description
A digital lineart tutorial I created for use in Photoshop. Theoretically it could be carried over into Painter, but would work better in Photoshop.I used Photoshop CS2 for this, but I would assume that the version generally does not matter as long as it is relatively new.
You WILL need a tablet for this tutorial. There is no way around it. Wacom makes the best tablets, most off-brands break easily. I used an 9x12 Intuos 3 Wacom tablet, however a 6x8 is just as good. However, a 4x5 tablet is too small and out of scale with your screen. Steer away from them, but it is better than nothing.
I will add an FAQ if it is really needed.

i really enjoyed this tutorial, i've been struggling with photoshop WANTING to do lineart but i'm so impatient with myself. reading this just gave me the vibe of slowing down.. taking my time, and just going with the flow. besides, who would want to continue making works of art if it isn't enjoyable?
thanks for taking the time to compile all of your tips for us little people out here. <3<3

I'd like to clear something up about your lineart...when you say zoom to 200-300%, you mean to stay really zoomed out, right? And in that case, how do you keep your lines smooth? Whenever I've tried to stay zoomed out to draw my lines, the lines come out sloppy.

Haha, love how it starts. Yeah, I can do anything if you give me a pencil but put me infront of a Wacom and my head explodes. Thanks a LOAD for this tutorial; rest assured I will be using these guidlines a lot as I continue to practice over the next few months. ^.^

This was incredibly helpful. Although it didn't bring things to light that I didn't know, it brought the things I've learned into one big light, so I'm really ancy to go draw! Thanks!

Though I rarely comment on popular artists works, I just gotta say this tutorial is amazing!
I was dumbfounded by the intricacies of the detail and effort you put into making this tutorial. So this 3 step process is really how you do your digital work in putting all this massive detail in?
My artworks have always been blocky and strained when it comes to intricate detail, and I have always wondered why my process in drawing took so long. This is actually completely opposite to how I do my artworks now. ^^ seeing this brought me to an epiphany and I just have to thank you so much for making this tutorial!
I'd love to see how you make your artworks flow so well with the line art as well. Anyway, thanks for the great tutorial.

when u start drawing th lineart, how many lines do u use to draw one line, like if u wear drawing a small curve, do u use one line or do u use lots of little lines?

A little bit of both.... I try to use as few lines as possible but my hand and my tablet arent always accurate enough to pull it off.

Hey great tutorial. I have a wacom tablet so this is really useful. I almost gave up and starting using pencil work again. Even though I like pencil work I wanted to hone my skills with the tablet but it was driving me nuts. So thanks for this piece of info. Cool tutorial. ^_^
