"Dude calm down Sonic is just a blue hedgehog" is something I've said for pretty much my whole time here on Deviantart. However some people claim that the statement is complete bullshit and that they should take Sonic very seriously. Well look when we say Sonic is just a blue hedgehog we don't mean "Well he's just a blue hedgehog so he's not allowed to be taken seriously" or "Well he's just a blue hedgehog so of course it's shit". What we actually mean is "Well Sonic is a blue hedgehog, and if you're an adult in your late 20s to early 30s, then you really shouldn't act like it's the most important thing in your life". See the people who get told this take Sonic so seriously that they spend most of their time online bitching about how Sonic doesn't appeal to them anymore, or will insult other people simply for not having the same opinion of Sonic they have. Like if you were 7 and you acted like this then it would be acceptable since you wouldn't know better yet, but if you're 27 and you acted like this ... then that's just plain sad. Like it doesn't matter if Sonic was made for children or adults, he's still a blue hedgehog either way. Now there is a mature way to do the kind of things these people do. Like when you see someone with a different opinion instead of saying "You don't like SA2? Are you fucking insane?" you should say "You don't like SA2? Well I personally do but to each his own I guess". Instead of giving a Sonic game criticism like "God this section is fucking terrible, what was Sonic Team thinking!" You should instead give it like "Well if Sonic Team worked on this part of the game more, I feel it could have been so much better". Hell there's even a way to take the series seriously while acting mature. Instead of saying "No the series must be taken seriously or else it won't appeal to me oh I mean everyone" You should word it like "Well I feel like if Sega made the series a bit more mature than it is, then it would attract more people to the series". If you guys acted like this instead of the way you currently do, then you're less likely to get ridiculed by people or told the Blue hedgehog phase. Stuff like this are the sole reason why I respect people like Tails Channel and Cobanermani456 cause while they admit they have certain desires for Sonic that aren't always met, at the end of the day they know he's just a fictional character so it's pointless to get mad over someone who doesn't exist. Point is you do have a right to express issues you have with the series, disagree with people, or even take the series seriously to a reasonable level. However if you claim that your ideal version of Sonic is fact and that everyone else who thinks otherwise is either an idiot or wrong, then that's not just acting immature, that's just acting plain selfish.
