Description I remember seeing a twitter moment saying that this new Sonic movie poster has left fans "divided", later on I saw someone say that this wasn't true at all, and that this was actually something that pretty the entire fanbase could agree on, this design is garbage, and after looking at a LOT of the reactions to this, I feel that person is in the right here. Like pretty much every single Sonic related thing has some sort of split against the fandom, like literally ANYTHING! Some say the genesis games deserve to be classics, others claim they're outdated, some say the archie comics are great, others wonder why they went on for 24 years. Course that's not to say it's always been a 50 50 split, cause their their are some opinions that are very common like "x" game is good/bad. But even then there's still at least a good 20%, 30%, maybe even 40% of the fanbase who will disagree. This design on the other hand, if there is a percentage that actually likes it (unironically at least) then it probably has to be below 10%.

Now I could end things here, but there are a few other things I want to dicuss. One is that their might be some fans out there who I wouldn't say are on the pro movie design side, but would try to use this to "expose" us in some way anyway. Some people might accuse people like me for being hypocrites for saying that we shouldn't judge things so early, yet we're shitting on this design and the movie with only a teaser. Now the latter I actually do sort of agree with which I'll get to why in a bit, and the former I would normally agree with as well. However the teaser we do have does show off quite a bit, it shows us his arms and hands, his overrall body, and if you look closely, you can even get a little glimpse of his eyes. Point is there's enough to this teaser where I'm pretty sure the final design isn't going to look that much better. But hey If they can actually prove us wrong and the final look is actually amazing then I will admit I was wrong, but as it stands I'm really not putting my money on that happening.

As for the movie itself, I will say that people judging the movie based off this design alone is a bit justifable and not at the same time. Like if people think that if they can't even get the look for Sonic right then why should they have any hope for the movie, and I can understand that. Though frankly I don't personally feel like one awful design could ruin the entire thing, cause everything else could be good, I mean it's not likely it'll be good (at this point I'm just hoping it'll be like the Super Mario Bros movie where it'll be an entertaining trainwreck to watch), but if in the far-fetched chance that the writing, action, and pretty much everything else is actually well done, then I'm not going to let one awful looking Sonic completely ruin it for me.

Now I'm sure some people might be wondering what my overrall thoughts on the movie and if I actually plan to see it. Well to answer that question .. I actually am for both the right and wrong reason. Like regardless of how the film turns out, I have to see it no matter what, and that's mainly out of obligation to both me being a Sonic fan, and my kid self. See I always wanted to see a Sonic the Hedgehog movie since I was a little kid, like maybe not as much these past couple of years, but definitely a lot like a decade ago. So now that it's actually happening, I feel like I have to fulfil that childhood wish of mine. It's a similar reason to why James Rolfe (AVGN) went to go see that last TMNT film despite not being impressed with the previous film, He always wanted to see Rocksteady and Bebop in a Turtles film, so to not see it would probably make him a hypocrite, and I'm kinda in that same boat. So if I have to see the movie anyway then I want either 1 of 2 things, It can either be a geniuely good movie, or it can at least be an entertaingly terrible film, and really I feel like I'd be less disapointed if I hope for the latter. Of course two things could happen here, one is that the movie is either legit good or at least fun to watch, OR the film could fail to make even my lowest expectations, and I would still at least have something to have fun going to town on, so I suppose no matter what I will be getting something out of this film.

just because it's an almost unanimous agreement doesn't mean it isn't a stupid agreement

Not just the fandom, but SEGA themselves too!

Now you KNOW you've fucked up royally when the creators and home company AND the fandom of the movie adaption your making gets ALL of them breathing fire down your necks!

The two posters released gives off very bad uncanny valley vibes which is what I think most people are having issues with. They mention how the head is too big for the body. Hands are too small.
In the second poster I noticed that the legs are too far a part from each other. His legs should be closer. It’s making things very uncanny valley.

I for one am gonna wait until either the design is fully revealed or a trailer arrives, before I make any further judgement on this film.

Not to mention even SEGA themselves don't like this design which means there is something horribly wrong with it.

Same here. However, I'm willing to check out the movie regardless of what happens. (I don't know if I'll see it in theaters though.)

I'll most likely check it out as well. For the sake of curiosity of course.

Even though I absolutely dislike Sonic's Paramount Movie design, I am still looking forward to how Ben Schwartz's Sonic voice and Jim Carrey's role of Dr. Eggman.

All of us can agree that Sonic design is awful.

Totally. Although I am curious to find out what Ben Schwartz's Sonic would sound like.

I can already imagine how Ben will sound like as Sonic, and it does sound like a good choice to have him for the role.

I don't think it'll be laughably bad.

Let's be real, nothing will ever get as laughably bad as the Sonic OVA.  There was a certain charm to it.

Well it's still not a waste to hope. Plus Jim Carrey's going to be Doctor Robotnik, so there has to be some kind of entertainment from that ironic or unironically.

Idk, Jim Carrey works for characters that are well suited for over-acting.  While Eggman has his moments though... it feels a little shaky in concept.
