Description
Hyper Con, Paudraic’s Getaway…
Republicat heard the slap of bare feet so large they could only belong to her friend and partner in crime fighting, and looked up to find the Crimson Conservative had been good to her word; the nine-foot supersoldier was no longer topless but for a pair of WOW stickers over her nipples, and had indeed changed her clothes.
The feline/human hybrid still had to shake her head, though.
“Much better,” RC sighed, reading the words on the front of the redhead’s tight briefs. She was a Rush Limbaugh listener (though not to the extent of her friend), and thus did not need to see the words printed on the woman’s muscular posterior to know what they were.
Connie, seeing many eyes on her already, struck a pose in the middle of the convention hall. “Not bad, if I do say so myself. So, what were you saying ‘bout visiting those rugrats?” She popped a Lucky in her mouth and lit up after speaking, then grinned at the amount of people pointing cameras her way and snapping pictures.
Republicat’s eyes flicked in the direction of Room D3, which, she knew, was being filled with orphans waiting to meet their favorite supers, then looked the smoking giantess up and down. “Uh, yeah… you know what? I’m sure they can wait for you; why don’t I head in there, and you can… um…” A group of scantily-clad young women complaining in front of some news cameras caught Republicat’s super-sensitive feline ears, and an idea struck her. Sorry, girls, she thought, but pointed a finger and said, “Hey, those aren’t members of Geeks for CONsent, are they?”
Connie spotted the members of the feminist group across the hall, and a gleam flashed in her eye. “Tell the kids I said ‘hi,’” the right-wing loudmouth said, and with one of her trademark smirks she reserved for when the opportunity to make trouble presented itself, started towards the activists.
Republicat winced, but then looked again towards the room that would house the gathering of orphans waiting to have their spirits lifted by meeting their favorite superhero personalities. A little girl being led inside happened to turn her head and see her. “Kitty!” she cried out, and pulled against the adult holding her hand, pointing at RC with her free hand and squealing in glee.
I think we‘re both gonna have fun here in our own ways, Connie, Republicat thought as she started purring, and hurried off to make some children’s day.

is the creator of Hyper Con, which debuted last year and is held at ’s resort. The Crimson Conservative made a pseudo-appearance at that event, but this time I actually showed her at the place. Sure, it was at the last minute, but I did it--still August in some time zones, so in your face, Moxiee!
Uh, James? Do you have something against her, or did she challenge you somehow, or… or something?
Well, no… b-but she’s always teasing me!
is obviously the artistic master behind this piece; I commissioned him to create it, and recommend you consider following my lead if you want him to make works of art on your behalf.
For what it‘s worth, Rush actually has said, “I love the women’s movement… especially when walking behind it.”
The Crimson Conservative and Republicat are my creations, © 2009.
Comments welcome, even if it’s to tell me your opinion of “sexual harassment” at comic conventions; Geeks for CONsent is a real organization, and as I don’t know too much about the con scene, can’t tell if they have a legitimate complaint or are just busy-body malcontents pushing the feminist agenda where nobody wants it.

Oh, does she ever: the Crimson Conservative was a buxom bombshell before she was forcibly transformed into a muscular supersoldier, and still has that mindset. She doesn't always realize people are looking at her not because she's sexy, but because she has a Gatling gun in each hand and a huge backpack full of ammo.

I agree with everything you say, and take pride in behaving like a gentleman (especially by the slovenly standards of modern society). These women remind me of the celebrities who made a huge fuss about paparazzi after the death of Lady Di; entertainment reporters and photographers said, “Really? We killed Lady Di, and you want us to leave you alone? You got it!” It was a beautiful thing, because mere moments later…

Having been to more than my share of conventions I can tell you this is a problem at times. Lonely, socially-defunct men see hot women dressed as their favorite characters and act like they lose their mind. I personally witnessed a least one guy cup the breasts of a girl right before his buddy took the picture and then run off into the crowd giggling like an idiot. Another instance involved a bunch of guys crowding this poor woman until security had to break up their leering and lack of respect for personal space. Most of the time I'll admit it's all harmless fun involving nothing more than photos and a handshake, but as with most things it only takes a few socially-retarded morons to ruin it for everyone.

Thank you for sharing your experiences, which was what I wanted. Guys just like me “lonely, socially-defunct men” can behave like that anywhere, and I am not a fan of it, of course; touch a woman with a body part against her will, and as far as I am concerned, it is up to the woman if the man gets said body part back in functioning order.
Apparently the big cons already have strict rules about harassment, and it sounds like they are enforced, so I just can’t help but wonder if this is an excuse to inject a tentacle of the irrational branch of feminism into yet another area it is not welcome. I just get the same feeling from them as I get from the bimbos who sued Girls Gone Wild for simply capturing what they themselves chose to do in public; I’ll never grope a woman (I hope that goes without saying!), but if you’re dressed like Lady Death or Power Girl and have the body to match? Hey, I’m lookin’.

Well, I honestly don't put you anywhere in the same category as some of the guys at these conventions. You might have a super-hero shirt on, but I imagine you as being well-dressed, clean and having a keen sense of how to behave in public. These are folks that have shown up in clothing sewed together from the Superman sheets they had as a child or who argue with artist for more than ten minutes about Poison Ivy's hair color. I'm not a big fan of extreme feminism at all. That woman Anita Sarkeesian for example makes me roll my eyes and want to laugh in her face. Having said that though I don't think this is a conspiracy, it's a fact of what happens when you have a beautiful woman dressed like Power Girl in a room full of guys, some of which have no idea how to react responsibly when presented with their "dream girl". Looking is fine, tasteful compliments and asking for photo-ops are all cool, but acting like a creep isn't and sadly it does happen.

Sarkeesian is a feminist who sees video games as a genre for the persecution and victimization of women. Her work is very skewed and she obviously gets her blood up when talking about it. I don't agree with the folks that threatened to kill her or blow up her home, but she is an angry woman full of angry, misconstrued ideas about gender equality. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anita_Sa…
I do think she would be perfect as newly-resurrected Yuri BTW.

The UK Independence Party. Seems like every other month there's a story about one of its members saying something racist, sexist or homophobic.
I'm not getting up in arms about it, it's really more of a "urgh, really? You're going there? " thing. I just get exasperated with people saying controversial things for publicity. It's one thing to accidentally let things slip, but it's another to say stuff just to stir things and get people riled up.

I think Rush is at the point where he doesn’t need to get attention from the general public, but when it comes to saying things to get targeted sections of the populace riled…
Judging by her clothing choices lately, looks like that is one area where Rush and the Crimson Conservative differ, though.

Huh... yeah that is a pretty douchy thing for him to say alright. Not horribly offensive, but it doesn't exactly help him if he wants to be taken seriously on any level.
And from what I've heard, the geeks for consent movement is in response to sexual harassment of women in cons that has actually happened and involves those women reminding people that personal space is something you generally should respect, that it's rude to stare and that asking permission before taking photos of someone is basic politeness.
So yeah, I don't see how you could possibly construe any of that as busybody malcontents when the mission statement is reminding people of basic civility.

The great thing about having over twenty million listeners every week is, Rush doesn’t have to censor himself to cater to people who already hate him; anyone who would think that harmless little joke was even approaching douchy is one of those people, and he has the luxury of not bothering to try to reach people he knows will never accept his beliefs.
Was it really formed for those reasons? The more I learn about them, the more I think they (or their leadership, anyway) are just the whiney, entitled little girls my gut told me they were. There are too many of the “Look at my titties/how dare you look at my titties!” types out there who need to realize that if you walk around in little more than a bikini, people will react to you as if you are wearing little more than a bikini, because you are wearing little more than a bikini. And from what I’ve read, Comic-Con and the other big gatherings already have very strict sexual harassment rules in place already, so .
For the record, while I shouldn’t even have to say this, of course I know men do inappropriate things when attractive women are around; they should be dealt with in the proper manner so the women will not feel upset or uncomfortable, which are emotional states I am certainly not a fan of them being in, no matter how they dress.
P.S.: You’re talking to a WASP; we’re just about the last bastion of civility in America.

Levia-the-Dragon In reply to JamesE82 [2014-09-04 16:51:17 +0000 UTC]
Oh he's free to say whatever he likes... and I'm free to call him a douche because of it. You see how that two-way street works? Indeed, if he ever says something that crosses a certain line, the people are free to take him to court over slander charges, because that's the thing about freedom of speech, it's not freedom from the consequences of it. If you say something significantly offensive, damaging to a person's reputation or provably wrong then you can and should be held accountable for it. Like we teach our children, actions have consequences.
I'll also say that how many listeners he has is frankly irrelevant, people can be wrong en masse all the time, a popularity contest is not the same thing as a rightness one. If it were, then we'd only ever get competent world leaders. And when I say that, you immediately think of Obama, when I'm thinking of Bush jr, so both of us could be right or wrong there, and we'd both have a lot of people that agree with us. Furthermore, if someone's popularity allows them to say stupid things, knowing they'll be insulated from backlash or even legitimate criticism by their legion of fawning toadies, that's not really a good thing, that's the kind of environment that births rampant egomaniacs.
I don't care what someone is wearing, there is still a line you shouldn't cross, that's just being a civil and decent human being. Now where that line is placed is a matter for some level of debate, but saying that there isn't genuine sexual harassment out there is a bit naïve, and the fact there is this backlash certainly implies that the men in question have not in fact been dealt with in the proper manner for some time.
As to your closing statement... I genuinely don't know whether you're saying that with some level of self-aware/self-deprecating irony or not... and that scares me a little.

JamesE82 In reply to Levia-the-Dragon [2014-09-04 17:16:43 +0000 UTC]
I brought Rush’s popularity up to illustrate that he is in a rare position of power that allows him to be honest and not bite his nails over offending people he doesn’t care about, and who will hate him no matter what he does or doesn‘t do.
Should I make this joke? Sh-Should I? I don’t know, people who already think I’m a sexist Nazi and want me off the air might be mad at me! Better be safe and not say what I want; I won’t make any friends doing that, but at least people who are calling me names won’t call me even more names for a little while!
Backlash? No, these are busy-bodies making noise in front of cameras owned by people who agree with their ideas, safe in the knowledge that if anyone disagrees with them, they can point and scream, “he’s promoting rape-culture!” until dissenting voices are silenced. Backlash is, say, regular American citizens patrolling the border to stop violent criminals from entering their nation, and physically stopping busloads of literally diseased (yes, literally) foreign children from being dumped into their neighborhoods. I’m not changing the subject, just illustrating that a few pretty little crybabies complaining about men looking at their boobies when they show them off is different than a real movement formed to stop something that’s actually important.
There is not an epidemic of ghetto gang rape or Islamic forced virginity checks at these places; what usually goes on is, women like to show off, and men appreciate them for doing so. Once the women are hounded, made to feel uncomfortable by unreasonable actions, or actually touched, then there is a problem that needs to be dealt with. This particular group seems to be protesting things that are already against convention rules, or even the law itself when it comes to upskirting or physical contact, so this seems like the hysterical, shrieking branch of feminism doing what it always does: seeing people having a good time, feeling left out, and screaming until people with actual power put a stop to it.
Last time we talked you admitted you liked seeing people fired for saying things you don’t agree with, and now you apparently think people can get sued for being against certain groups? You’re not the only one scared at the moment, and if you think that white, Anglo-Saxon Protestants are not statistically very chivalrous when compared to some other groups, then I am also baffled.

Levia-the-Dragon In reply to JamesE82 [2014-09-04 22:47:54 +0000 UTC]
It might help people not to hate him if he didn't keep saying stuff like that. And I honestly don't think such a position of power is healthy for a person, yes you can't worry about what everyone thinks of you since there's always going to be someone out there that doesn't like you, but if a substantial number of people dislike you, that would seem to be an indication that it's time for some self-reflection. I don't think the world is a brighter, more interesting, intelligent or exiting place for him having made that joke, it didn't contribute anything to our culture or understanding of the way the world works, it's just the same cheap humour at someone's expense that has existed for decades. There comes a point where you have to balance doing what you want to do with not being an asshole, and if what you want to do is ignore any sense of restraint and just constantly be an asshole to some people, I don't think you're worth defending.
I also don't agree with silencing dissent, no matter where it comes from, I wouldn't call his comments to be contributing to "rape culture" but I would consider them to be legitimising objectification of women since he does have that position of cultural power and influence, and when he uses that to make people think it's okay to act like a complete sleazy tool, then that at the very least isn't making anything better.
Now... with regards to a busload of diseased children, I'm going to need a little more context, because I can understand not wanting to have a medical emergency on your hands if those infections get around, but if those children are collectively that sick that someone thought grouping them together and bringing them to America would help because there just isn't any way of treating them wherever they came from, then maybe that is a situation in need of a little humanitarian support rather than just dumping them back on the other side of the border to die. As to criminals, well yes, you do need to monitor your own borders, but if you're saying that people just coming over the border automatically become criminals without having any other sort of crimes on their records, well that makes me cock an eyebrow as international law does make allowances for people fleeing danger, treating them as refugees, and from what I understand of the situation over in Mexico, it's not unreasonable that at least some people crossing over the border could legitimately fear for their life, I also question whether this is something civilians should be doing.
I think you'll find that if they're talking about things happening at a con that are against con rules or indeed the law, then they're doing so because con security is inadequate and they are trying to raise awareness that more needs to be done to combat unwanted physical contact or the like, thing is, it doesn't matter what rules you have if you don't have the resources allocated to enforce them, and I haven't heard any input from convention organisers as to what level of security or supervision they actually do provide.
I admitted that someone who made a sustained series of incredibly offensive comments on twitter when it was not necessary deserved to be fired, I don't "like" that any of that happened, ideally that person would have simply ranted about how the INDIVIDUAL that assaulted them was unpleasant and left the matter of race out of it, as his language contained extremely archaic hatred that seemed to be directed at all black people because of the actions of this one woman that happened to be black. And I'd be very interested to see the study that statistically proves your theory of WASP types being the most civil.
