Description
This image is a personal project, so doesn't belong to anyone else, i.e. a client. The non-exclusive license for this image is Β£30.Straight forward digital painting, all done in photoshop. I think this one took about a day or so. It is a concept for a large defence ship which protects earth from....erm...aliens - yes that's it!

Epic! What is the bright light in this shot? Often it's the sun cresting over the earth, but obviously it isn't here.

JamesLedgerConcepts In reply to OneofakindKnight [2011-11-03 17:30:49 +0000 UTC]
Thanks knight! It would have to be a highly reflective paneling on top of the ship, reflecting the sun. Bear in mind I was still a beginner when I done this pic..!

Cool, thanks for the explanation! Large space craft are so awesome! You have any fighters?

Wow how in the hell did I miss this one in your gallery?! Excellent job and very cinematic. Also, that is the most tasteful use I have ever seen on a lens flare. Normally I cant stand a lens flare on an image, but you executed it very well.

JamesLedgerConcepts In reply to dustycrosley [2011-08-23 00:21:13 +0000 UTC]
Thanks xenomorph. Yes, the issue of lens flares is of serious concern to most of us - default photoshop lens flares are a CRIME and users should be imprisoned! I very quickly learned this (as I expect a lot of us did) and swore NEVER to use a default photoshop lens flare again! Actually I did in this case, but I manipulated it and added as much as I could to disguise the fact.

Wow I can never get my lens flares to look like that.you really do great work.
π: 0 β©: 1
JamesLedgerConcepts In reply to Spydraxis01 [2011-07-28 21:29:37 +0000 UTC]
Thanks spy. I just use a default soft brush to dab out a white blob, stretch it horizontally, squash it vertically, duplicate different sizes on top of each other and colorize them. I set the layers to color dodge until I like it.

It's a cool piece, but I honestly think it would look better without the lens flare effect.
