Straight forward digital painting, all done in photoshop. I think this one took about a day or so. It is a concept for a large defence ship which protects earth from....erm...aliens - yes that's it!

Your welcome. I adore realistic art, especially if it shows something that doesn't exist in reality.^^

I think I've found a muse. I'm a Science Fiction (aspiring) author and I have been looking for a long time for something to grab my attention like this. Most of the images I use to inspire me are epic picture of space. Nebulae, Stars, Planets and things of that nature, but I haven't found a picture of a ship that actually works as inspiration.

Thank you for this beautiful image to inspire me - one among the few I'm sure.

Great image, the ship detail is sharp with been over the top. Very much like an opening shot in a film. Good stuff

This is one of the ones I am showing at the Southville Centre, Bristol, from the 1st August, for 1 month.

My spacial awareness regarding art events is pants. Is the Southville Centre exhibiting various artworks, or just yours? Do you get giclee prints of your work for mounting?

JamesLedgerConcepts In reply to Fladam [2011-07-08 22:52:37 +0000 UTC]

Various. Giclee prints for sure. Sizes are around 1 meter wide. Then the frames as well. I am only just learning myself about art events.

I'm guessing the frames come at a hefty price for such sizable prints, unless Ikea do a great deal. Some exhibitions/galleries require you use uniform frames, is that criteria the same for you, or can you use any frame type you want?

JamesLedgerConcepts In reply to Fladam [2011-07-16 23:55:23 +0000 UTC]

I checked Ikea - all their frames are based on a standard square or 6 x 4 kind of aspect ratio. No good for me. Most of my prints are around 8 x 3.5 cinematic (kind of) aspect ratio. So, I had to get frames tailor made. A regular shop will charge £80 upwards, per frame. I need about 12 done. Luckily I found someone to make them for half that. Then there is all the other stuff to consider, like packaging for the sell-able prints, hooks, additional wire, commission to the venue etc. Getting started is costing more than I expected.

I hope you do flog a few at the exhbition, and reclaim some of your hard earned cash. What do you mean by packaging for the sellable prints? Are the prints going to be backed onto card for stability, or wrapped neatly to be presentable for the punters?

JamesLedgerConcepts In reply to Fladam [2011-07-26 18:14:04 +0000 UTC]

Cheers - they are backed onto card and wrapped with clear plastic. Just got them and very pleased! It's such a risky business, this art stuff!
