In memory of at least sixteen Red Kites and four Buzzards poisoned in the Highlands of Scotland earlier this year. There is a silhouette in the background for each bird as well as the main figure www.theguardian.com/environmen…
Red Kites are princes among birds, one of Britain’s most beautiful birds of prey. Wonderful to see. The illegal killing of so many in one area in such a short span of time has shocked many, as it should. I will be selling twenty A3 signed and numbered limited edition archive quality prints of this piece only and donating all of the profits to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds for their work with persecuted wildlife, particularly birds of prey.

So far I've only read the book of the dead once but I plan to do so again. The amazing thing is I thought of this quote upon seeing the thumbnail. You've done such a great job here from the pose to the emotion in it's eyes. My favorite part, though, is your reason behind painting this, I can never understand why some people can be so evil.

I find the book of the dead incredibly inspiring. That quote seemed so fitting, very much what I attempted to do with the piece. Glad you like it.
Whether it was by accident or design, the poisonings were a tragedy I will never understand. Whoever is responsible must be brought to justice.

When I read about it in the news it just gutted me, it hurts me so much that people still do this to our beautiful raptors. Red kites are particular favourites of mine too so it hit even closer to home. What a beautiful piece. xxx

this is a wonderful drawing... and a very sad story... I don't even hurt insects,... can't understand how someone could plan such a series of killings...
I don't have enough money for a print like that, but maybe I could give you a little something for your donation... let me know... or maybe you could allow a high-resolution downloading for a smaller amount?? idk...

It really is tragic and sadly not that unusual, what is was the number killed at around the same time. This wasn't hunters by the way, whoever did it remains at large, even though there is a big reward for whoever can give the info to bring them to justice.
