Rider does not approve of being a human. Although it does make things easier on her.
Also to answer WHY Rider is wearing a dress and NOT her bad ass armor.
Simple:
Rider is from medieval Equestria times where it wasnt a woman's place to do work. They were to be seen and not heard. Growing up like this she has a very set view on things. (Even although she illegally joined the guard under the guise of a man and her husband never thought of her as less than an equal) Rider actually struggles to cope with the new world shes in. Shes actually had more than one fight with her daughter Metalica since growing up in vastly different times they have insanely different views. (For instance. Rider does not approve of the fact Metalica is dominant in her relationship or refuses to grow her hair out or wear frilly outfits or accessories AND all over she doesnt approve of the fact Metalica decided to get the majority of her body tattooed with black markings) However Rider -although she doesnt agree with it- is very accepting of Metalica's choices and lets her do what she sees fit.
