Description This is the second of a two page Spider-Ham story that I wrote, drew and colored. I intend to show it to Marvel this spring at the C2E2 convention in Chicago. I wanted to show it here and see what you guys think!

Didn't they ret-con her name and species to "Mary-Crane Watson" in more recent stories?

That's a different universe.

I wish Marvel would pick up humor titles like tis again. It'd help with readership, and provide them with a more eclectic/varied selection of titles.

I'd have thought that with Disney buying them out, we'd be seeing more cartoony humor books. Sadly, that couldn't be further from the case.

Tell me about it. It seems that Marvel is just getting grimmer. In fact, I don't see much humor/cartoony storytelling or art in anything unless it's indie, or online. Though, I do have to make a note of Marvel's Oz books. Those definitly fall into something wholly different from Marvel's usual titles.

I can see what you're saying. Thing is, I based my drawing of Spider-Ham off Mark Armstrong's design. Mark was the original artist on Spider-Ham in 1985, and admittedly, his version of a pig was a bit bird-like: [link]

My god, these Spider-Ham comics are hilarious! If Marvel actually hires you to write and draw a new spider-ham series, I would buy it. I would march right down to my comic shop (well, drive, it's a bit of a ways) and order it from them.

Yes, it's more excellent work. I hope Marvel doesn't go all grim-and-gritty with Spider-Ham like DC did with Captain Carrot.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JayFosgitt In reply to jpmorgan [2010-02-13 12:39:05 +0000 UTC]

They did? How the heck could you make a cartoony book like Captain Carrot grim and gritty? And why, for that matter? Totally defeats the point of making a cartoony book, in my opinion!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jpmorgan In reply to JayFosgitt [2010-02-13 16:13:15 +0000 UTC]

In Teen Titans a few years back, Capt. Carrot and the Zoo Crew were presented as a comic-book story within the story, where Little Cheese is dead. Yankee Poodle has lost her secret identity and is a fugitive from the law, accused of trying to assassinate President Mallard Fillmore. Fastback has disappeared, Pig-Iron and Rubberduck operate as underground superheroes against the current anti-superhero law and Captain Carrot is in self-imposed retirement after the death of his partner, Carrie Carrot. Et cetera. (From Wikipedia.)

It was intended as a riff on the then-current state of affairs with Identity Crisis, et al.

Seriously, though, your Spider-Ham stuff could easily replace the old Franklin Richards: Boy Genius strips!

Hilarious banter between Spidey and Green here; just the kinda stuff that really makes both hero and villain appear more "human" with your own comical twists
