WELL ! I felt like making a handful of tutorials after taking some notes for myself and this is the result. I hope somebody out there finds this a little helpful. The next two parts will focus solely on faces, and i think everyone will find them much more interesting. Just wanted to get this one out of the way first.

Really cool tutorial. I used to draw all my characters looking the same, too. Then again, I got my start in art by drawing in a pretty generic anime style (I still do tend to draw that way). I've never really worked with silhouettes - I need to try doing that.

Hey, I've got a reference tumblr (actually just started it) and I wanted to put this three part series up but I wasn't sure if you already had them in a tumblr post or not (becuase I'd rather just reblog you so you get more exposure then otherwise) I know you have a tumblr for your comic and one for gaming development but I didn't see anything about an art one so I thought I'd ask first^^

Aah, this is excellent! I mean, I fall into the shortcuts even though I KNOW better, but this is so fun. It makes me want to draw a ton of new characters. Or actually just, y'know, rework some old ones that really need it. Yes, perfect.

I didn't use any books as references, but I did use a few blog posts from various writers... unfortunately when I went to go grab the links for you they've been taken down due to copyright. sorry about not being able to get you anything else :--(

It really is a testament to the character designer that you can recognize Cruella from her silhouette even though most of it is that massive coat. And I wonder how many people will recognize Razputin?
