Description
I'M SORRY THAT THIS IS SO HUGE!!!My very first line art tutorial!!!
It's pretty basic... but I thought I should start out with a basic one and then I'll put up more advanced tutorials up. I'm still learning how to use Photoshop CS3 myself! o.O;;;
Anyway, yay! You can use this! I hope it helps...
I'll make a colouring tutorial later. >.<; Heh heh.

Here was my problem:
Look up at the toolbar at the upper left (File, Edit, etc) with the pen tool selected, under that is another tool bar. This tutorial shows you how it should look, so just copy it!

Yeah...the sketch is the background layer so when I make a new layer(the lineart layer) it is the only other layer on the layer's section. On your tutorial, it says that there should be a background layer, then your sketch and then you'll make your first layer(the lineart layer). If you could please help, I would really appreciate it because I am having a very difficult time following tutorials or making pictures using Photoshop because it's not working how everyone else's supposedly is. Thanks so much!

This is very helpful and easy to understand. I do have a question though...and it's very basic. Well, in the beginning, it said to not have your picture on the background layer. Well I would love to follow your directions but unfortunately, when I open my picture up with CS3, the picture already is on the background layer. Could you please help me and explain what I have to do/what I'm not doing right? Thanks a ton for both your great tutorial and for your help

I've been self-teaching (well, does reading the odd tutorial still count as self-teaching?) myself photoshop for the last 2 - 3 years now. Yet this is probably the most awesome pen tutorial i've seen.
After reading this, the sly bugger doesn't scare me to click it any more :>
*cackles and runs screaming towards Photoshop*

I have a problem .. I was able to come all the way till step 7, but step 8 just isn't working!
.. the 'stroke path' option is not active.. what do I do?!
Great tutorial btw..

Blue-Possibility In reply to Devathi [2011-01-08 03:58:04 +0000 UTC]
If the Stroke path option isn't active, create the curve then switch the the brush option, select the size of brush and then click enter, it should create the line.
Good luck!

i have a question, how do you open it into a different layer then background layer? becuase with mine, it opens on the background >_<
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
JennyWheat In reply to Pineapple-kun [2008-03-12 06:00:53 +0000 UTC]
When you open it and it comes out as the background layer, here's what to do:
Ctrl+A Ctrl+C
Ctrl+N
Press "OK"
Ctrl+V.
So Ctrl+A selects your entire picture, Ctrl+C copies your entire picture, Ctrl+N creates a new file (and press "OK" to create it ), and Ctrl+V pastes the copied picture (and it'll automatically be "Layer 1" and above the "Background" layer).
I hope this helps! n.n
