Description I was trying to explain the body's proportional breakdown to someone the other day, and was frusterated by the fact I couldn't find any pictures online to illustrate my descriptions! ... My sister noted my irritation and mentioned I would probably waste less time just sketching one up instead of scouring the internet for it.

ANYways, this is a very quick and very incomplete demonstration, but I just wanted to illustrate some of the techniques I learned by and still use.

These proportions are for and adult person right?
Does it work for a teen body? or the numbers will be differents?

thnx

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jianre-M In reply to Felhek [2009-11-10 04:17:58 +0000 UTC]

yes these are adult proportions, a teen body GENERALLY tends to have lankier proportions, a larger head in comparison to the body, narrower shoulders, less muscle and so on. bigger hands and feet comparatively too. the "heads" measurement would differ depending on the age and physical maturity of the character in question, lessening as the age goes down.

does that make sense?

you're welcome!

hahahahah!! Force of habit for Advanced Critique, but now that you mentioned it, it's kinda pointless to put that option there...

I find it very amusing, so yeah? XD it always cracked me up that super-models, and fashion design use 9 heads... which also explains why nothing actually fits us normal people...

Paragon-Oblivion In reply to Jianre-M [2008-03-05 00:16:31 +0000 UTC]

You know how much I desire these quality proportion guides, and I always thought it was 5 heads not 7.5, so this did give me some instant ideas and so on. ^-^

x'D It's fine. o wo I don't much mind it, but yeah~ Pointless somewhat.

Well I cracked up in the middle of class when I spied that, so I guess we agree on the hilarity of the idea. Funnily enough, when I was responding just now, a fashion model ad came up and compared her to a normal person. x'D

I wouldn't really call us the normal people, after all, it's not the supermodels and actors who hold a majority for fucking up the system as it is. I wish I was in charge~ Oh the havoc to reaped, the fields to raze~

I'm glad, I'm still working on better ones... they're even more important now that I'm tutoring someone in Fine Art.

I had a teacher explain it to me once... ... LOL! just goes to show that media loves to lie...

okay, point... I'm really not a "normal" person, but the majority of people don't have super-model figures... =.= I've had a few people suggest that I should be in charge of things too... I don't entirely know what I would do with that...

oh, btw... if you're ever interested... you can see my wackier side by visiting my Gaian Guild -> [link] <- I'm starting things back up there. so if you want to say Hi, now would be ideal... somehow I imagine you'd have interesting conversations with Jehobo. ... though I guess his name is "Cecil Helden" now.

Of course! If the media DIDN'T lie... how would the government KEEP us all penned up? -forces a copy of Ishmael into your hands- Onward! IT must be spread! -babble-

Normal is an overrated state of being just short of being intereting. I find that interesting people are the LEAST 'normal' and the MOST entertaining. :3 i love the 'interesting' types, screw being normal~ And how I wish I had illimitible control, irrefutable control~

o3o I know about that guild, seeing as how i'm a part of it, dear. Cecil hmm.... I'll have to flit around. I feel a rampage coming on.... and I desperately need a roleplay partner... Alas, I'm labeled a god modder, so roleplays are hard to find. Specially using Paragon, of all people.

heh, I don't pay too much attention to politics, there's too many morons in high-up places. XP

Hehehehehe, it would be fun to put some of the wackier people in control, perhaps some of the people who are a little less concerned with lining their own pockets... >.<

I think you could manage decently well in the Chaosflow, we have some pretty powerful characters running around there too! :3

Paragon-Oblivion In reply to Jianre-M [2008-07-14 21:49:01 +0000 UTC]

(x'D It's a wonderful habit, seeing as how you're not overly burdened to remember every detail, you have a lot of free memory, as it were. I, meanwhile, have almost nothing to spare.) Nah, I like taking in knowledge, not distributing it. I support the regal gesture, but without the desire to learn, there's no point, nu?

Of course~ You have to be a moron to run a country. Look at ours. Nuff said. Did you see Bush at the new G8 summit? Would you like to know what I saw him doing while the other world leaders were talking of the well being of the world? Playing with his pencil, preoccupied with the damn thing to the point of obsession, with this really dull look on his face. Politics, as they say, is the skilled use of blunt objects.

:3 But you see, they all want money after they have that kind of power. It's corruptive, that's why we need a morally bankrupt and already corrupted leader. There's a guarantee he won't fuck things up worse than they were to start with.

Eh... I don't know x'D It's an interesting-sounding place, but... Paragon is sort of getting tired of the ceaseless useless fights. He's a sadist, still, so I dunno if that's the end of his roles to play.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jianre-M In reply to Paragon-Oblivion [2008-07-23 16:38:47 +0000 UTC]

(hehehehe no kidding, I'm often pretty relaxed, because I can't remember what I was supposed to be stressed out about. ) Yeah but what if there IS the desire to learn? sometimes there are people who wanna know but they don't have anyone to teach them... having been in that situation myself I can understand the flip-side of that argument.

I don't pay any attention to politics, it bores the living daylight outta me... Though in truth while I may not approve of Bush's decisions I have to disagree on the count of his inteligence. but there's a difference with smarts and wisdom.

the problem with THAT is that an "already corrupt" leader WOULD make things worse and certainly wouldn't make things any better... but he wouldn't get our hopes up.

It's up to you. Doesn't have to be Paragon, but you might find it entertaining.

( I believe I lost this messages previous content... such a shame. D: )

I believe that's the painful situation I've my own self stuck in. I've dropped out of school, and now I'm getting lonely for those halls again. Even if there were stabbings and fights all the time... Feels like I'm supposed to be in as many painful situations as humanly possible.

The first lesson taught in our Philosophy club is that there is a great difference between knowledge and wisdom. If you didn't know what it was, chances are you didn't belong in the club. Politics are annoying, and rather dull, but it's best to know a little of everything. You must be prepared to do anything at anytime, is my thinking.

So~? I believe that's quite better than a leader who gets our hopes up then passes the torch when he realizes he can't do anything he promised. I'd rather be disillusioned than disappointed, you know?

I might... but... D: I believe this was about the Chaosflow, was it not? I've got such a cast of characters in my head I probably won't ever run out of ones to use, I could give you a list, but you'd be bored half to death. XD

(yeah, there seems to have been some glitches with DA 6.0 ... )

Is there any way for you to go BACK to school? .... everyone has their own pains and their own situation. What you might consider intolerable, the next person wouldn't be bothered by, but the reverse is also true.

I can certainly vouch for that, I know too many people who don't seem to possess a lick of common sense, but have degrees in something or other and so think they're the be all and end all of information.

yeah, politics are just full of so much crap. PARTICULARLY the media, I can't stand to listen to it...

I can understand that, but while a leader who finds himself not up to snuff, might not progress the country much, a corrupt leader would drag it down quickly and intentionally. ... to me it's like an incompetent leader is neutral ground, a good leader is forward and a corrupt leader back. I'd rather be in the middle, than falling behind.

Most likely, yeah. that and I probably wouldn't understand most of the list, I'm bad with names as it is.

( Maa~ Everything has a problem. Flawed thinking, you know. )

No, I've turned 18, and Metro Nashville Schools won't take anyone in over 18. If you turn 18 after enrollment, you better be graduating, otherwise your out. That can also be taken as ignorance or overconfidence, dear Jian~ Everything is a personal problem for everyone, because the public is generally private, and most private things are public anyway. So... one person's problems is for me a problem as well. Maa~ Now that I know what they want to do at the school, I don't much care to go back now. I'll tell you after you reply to this one. It's quite sickening to me.

Of course, no one said you have to be smart to be a college graduate. And no one necessarily said wisdom is learned in a book. Quite the opposite. You may KNOW something, but to apply and learn from it through that application generally fosters wisdom. At least... that's how I think it's put.

The media is merely a tool to get people to jump through hoops and beg for treats. They entertain us, blind us, mute us, deafen us so we don't recognize the true state of things. I stopped becoming concerned with the U.S. political state once I realized that the order's been knocked on it's side. The government was a tool created by the people to help them keep things nice and neat. Governments are made by the people, to serve the people. People shouldn't be afraid or owned by their governments, instead, Governments should be afraid and owned by their peoples.

Not true. Hitler was quite a corrupt man, and that was rather obvious, but he drove his country to a height Germany hasn't seen in decades. It takes men of evil to spur a nation on to it's greater potential. Then again, it depends on the man. Stalin wasn't exactly charismatic. He was Hitler's antithesis. He wasn't a very good public speaker but he was intimidating. I'd rather not be involved at all. I prefer being on the sidelines, just taking things in. A....spectator.

Maa~ I figured something like that would be your answer, Hah~. Eh... most of the time I don't understand the character until I've written about them forever. That's how Paragon came about. I wrote and wrote and wrote, and eventually the idea of this awe inspiring conglomerate of souls and hate sprang to life. It was quite amazing.

(out of curiosity... why do you keep saying "Maa"? :3 )

aw, dang it. ... well that just sucks... XP
College maybe? That can be pretty fun too, and community colleges are pretty cheap!

Something like that, all I know is I like to consider myself wise for my age. and I've had alot of people agree with me. But there's alot of things I don't know much about... mostly because I don't CARE. ... Right now my learning obsession is the Sidhe. The Fae, The Seelie and UnSeelie courts... XD all the celtic folklore and critters...mmmMMmm... lots of fun!

I can't stand politics,... mostly because I can't be fooled by the media. The general stupidity of the masses disgusts me. So I try to ignore it. PARTICULARLY with the current race. I walk around wearing a "Sephiroth For President" badge, and point to that when people inquire.

Hitler ALSO almost destroyed Germany. He committed horrific acts that would blacken his country for generations to come. Germany is STILL recovering from that. Russia's politics have always been so messed up, their country keeps killing off it's own citizens before they can fix anything. .. geh, ... I actually know more about THAT then most historical events... my Game Design Teacher is a huge history buff, and I've been helping him test and build games about alot of those battles. :3 (that and it's terribly fun to listen to HIS History lessons about the wars.)

Lol. Same here... I'm still hashing out some character designs in my head, too many characters to keep sorted and way too many to actually explain in a reasonable length of time.

(( Maa~ is simply an expression I've gotten into the habit of using. Like ne at the end of sentences or what not. :> It's habitual. ))

I'm thinking of putting off increasing my state education. I learned more without them than I did with them. I'll take night classes if I have to to get where I want.

It all differs from person to person... I'm told I'm smart for my age. Have been told that, but I think it's a bunch of crock. Oh~ I don't believe the Morrigan, the Macha, or the Babd are a part of the celtic lore... Nor is Balor of the Evil Eye. I'm a wide reaching obsessive person~

I can't stand it, but I'll understand it if it means I'll get what I want. I'm unfortunately greedy, obsessive, wrathful, gluttonous, envious and prideful. :> That's a very nice way of saying your opinion.

Great men often only make great mistake. Great men are often corrupt as well. But that's something that's well known, isn't it? The one place I want to go right now is Russia, actually. I love the place. Yes, Russia is a grim place, but it's also a beautiful place. The same could be said for this country, that we took and built on the broken backs and bodies of others. :> Never forget bloodshed made this place. Still makes it, if I'm not mistaken. Ah... How I wish I lived over there. Or at least could visit for a chat with you sometime.

An artist/writer's job is never finished. :> Right?

( Does Maa, mean anything in particular? ... 'cause I adopted "ne" after learning to speak some Japanese in college, Ne adds emphasis to the word it's attached to, "sou desu" ... means something like "I see."... or "I get it". but it's more final to say "Sou desune". ... at least, that's how I THINK it works. )

well, ... College is more about the degree, and the people you can meet than it is about what you learn. That's what they repeatedly tell me at my school. We need to NETWORK, they say, and get the degree to enhance our standing for that job we all want. learning the neccesseties isn't what everyone's there for, but we learn it all the same if we didn't already know it.

I don't know what age you are, but I'd say you're most likely more inteligent than most of the people I encounter who are your age.
They are somewhat, alot of the stories were interchanged and exchanged across the mythologies, .. they do differ a bit tho.

if understanding it helps you, then go for it! Just don't expect me to share that interest, I can talk politics for about 5 minutes... and then I'm DONE. no more! Don't wanna talk about it! ... unfortunately alot of my friends don't understand how I lose interest so fast.
I sometimes have nice ways of saying it... sometimes not so nice. but I prefer not to start fights if I don't have to. I've got better things to do.

I think our oppinion on this matter will just have to differ, I see what Hitler did, and I cannot call him great. DRIVEN perhaps, Ambitious certainly, but he was a liar and a cheat and he nearly destroyed his own people. (he was also a hippocrit.)
Russia is very pretty, but the goverment is really messed up there too. However, if that's where you want to go, then good luck to ya! ^_^
Maybe someday it'll work out. XD ... I'm spreading out more and more with conventions, we'll have to see what I can manage. :3

NEVER!! throw in a game Designer too, and I'm a third time as busy.

(( To my knowledge, no, but then again I only know how to speak very broken japanese, I know little words and euphamisms, but that's as far as I go. A little thing I picked up once was... Ah.. 'Sore wa himitsu desu' which was loosely translated as 'That is a secret'. ))

That's kind of depressing, really. :< It's quite annoying NOTHING ever works out the way it was supposed to. I'm sure you've noticed that with alot of things, at your age. For example, I've had my identity stolen. The red tape alone that I have to move through is so dense it'll take me forever to just get out of this fucking mess, and the government doesn't do jack shit to help. They just give me more paper work.

I'm 18, for the record. And I have noticed that alot of kids of my generation are either pot heads or just completely stupid. Not all, but a good majority are just screaming 'manual laborer' to me. It's annoyingly unsatisfying... Does the world always have to be so disappointing? It's sad no one wants to change it for the better, it's always bills this, taxes that, war here and there, drive the world into the toilet and drown it in shit.

Is Dagda a prominent figure in the Unseelie court? I was watching this bad B movie called Max Magician and the LEgend of the Ring. Dagda was a villain in it.

Why make enemies when you can make puppets? Manipulation works just as well as a punch for me. Know what I mean? I don't like to hurt people, I know how to, but I don't think it's a wise use of my talent. I can break ribs, snap noses, make paint from your blood and make a nice mosaic. I'm rather talented, wouldn't you say? /bravado

I think it might. I'm going by what he achieved. I care little about who he was, because he was human. Insane, evil, and hell bent on killing Hebrews, but he was quite effiecent.(( I hear Walt Disney was anti-semitic, or near it))

Russia is quite pretty, but it's a very deceptive beauty, like anything else like it. Government is messed up no matter where you go. :> I would go as far as to say government these days is in need of reform, on a world scale.
I might be able to meet you halfway, if I get a job, ne.

Of course not~ xD Well~ Artist/Musician/Writer/Bachelor is quite the stressful occupation these days... I really need to start working. I think Wal-Mart is a good place to start, or maybe fast food?

( Hehehe, that sounds about right. "himitsu" I remember that one from a couple animes, and the other words match too. )

hehe, well if you're smart, you WILL try to learn what you can from school, but often you'll really learn stuff, once you're out in the field or in your career/industry. The basics help you to be more easy to teach when you're ready to go.
Oh, EEK! I don't THINK I've ever had my identity stolen, not that I know of anyways, but I've a few friends who have and it's nothing but headaches.

heh, It doesn't get much better in MY generation, they're drunkards and slackers and STILL completely stupid. Get their parents to pay for stuff that they ruin... ect...
We just gotta keep doin' what we can, gotta change yourself first before you change the world right?

yes. Dagda is an Unseelie fellow, He's mentioned alot, though the legends about him do differ a bit.

Why make enemies at all? I only make enemies when said people give me no other choice, otherwise I just set a good example, and people follow me if they want to. I'd rather have friends and partners, people who can give as good as they get and will stand next to you in a fight. Puppets are rarely as loyal as good friends.
Sounds rather talented, but I know a few people equivalently skilled. I'm not much the fighter, but I have a REALLY nasty tongue when I'm ticked. ( I do hold my own when fighting starts tho.)

what he achieved? he's dead, and Germany wasn't too well off after WW2. His people are hated and persecuted all over that side of the globe, and he gave Germans a nasty name that has lingered for Generations. That and he ruined perfectly good symbols that used to have GOOD conotations.

a Dangerous, barren beauty much of the time.

Sure, meeting halfway would be pretty cool!

heheheheheh, yeah. It certainly can be, I can tell you that Artist/Writer/Game Designer/Counselor/Art Teacher/Sister ... isn't much less stressful.
ANYTHING is good for a first job, but Wal-Mart and McDonalds are pretty good on a Resume. Nobody wants to work for Micky-D's but it shows that you're not too prideful to have worked there. That and McD's generally has high work-ethic standards.

but ultimately it's up to you and what you can get.

Oh yes... Headaches abound. I had my first migraine in.... 6 years? when I first found out all the legal bullshit I have to suffer through, even though the guy lives naught but 20 miles away. D<
Mostly, I'm the kind of person who has to plan EVERY MINUTE detail to extreme parameters before I'll even consider making a move, most of the time. So... I won't do anything without knowing what I'm doing inside and out. =w= I'm stubborn in that respect most times, unless I'm hounded by a friend.

Yes, that is the popular connotation. Slackers, drunks, junkies, idiots, a pestilence amongst pests, really. It may seem meglomaniacal of me, but I'd be in the business of cleaning out the gutters of this country, if I cared at all. Which I don't, on the record.

Why make friends~? Live as you dream, alone. I say this, mind, but I'm human, and when I'm starved of conversation I'll make friends with anyone for the sake of good company. I'm stubborn about it, to boot. =w= I'd take a bullet for anyone I'd consider a friend, and I'd take an extra one if I thought you were worth it. it's... a complex thing to explain, and words are the most annoying way to convey them. Wouldn't it be so much easier to share the pure thought? The pure meaning you try to communicate to others? -sigh- How much BETTER the world would be then... no miscommunication, no misunderstanding, no lack of information~ But, every action has a consequence~ I'm sure you can see that idea's negative aspect~

True~ He's a worm ridden, louse infested corpse that's spat upon in thought by every living human. Still, it was an admirable effort for an ultimately doomed ideal. -picks ear- Tell me, how long could a horrible fantasy like his last~? How long can an eternity last? :3 I wonder which one will run into the ground first, ne? OH~ You mean the mantra? Symbol of good karma and what not? Yes, but ignorance often helps in that respect... People make bad symbols BASED upon the good, and I think that's fine. There should be a negative to EVERYTHING, there needs to be. Though, in respect, there should be a positive for every negative as well. Balance, you know~

...-snorts- I almost thought you were talking about American women for a moment~ The stereotypical, whorish look =w= -should be slapped- but yes... and that's is my main draw to it, isolation. I mean, what's better than to wake up, in happiness, and take in a pristine atmosphere, with no intereference or distraction?

Well, no one is just one thing, isn't that right, Jian? We all have to juggle our lives like circus clowns~
I was thinking so, but I wasn't sure... Since the holidays are coming fast, Wal-Mart will be swamped and looking for people, so.... -is just in a craving for money-

that's another life lesson, Jian~? >3
Ah~ It aggravates me not being able to talk, even in a digital way, like Yahoo or something~ That would make our conversations MUCH quicker, ne?

speaking of headaches.... I think I made a bit of a miscalculation in my plans this week. my friends and siblings had been planning to attend the "Midnight Showing" of the movie "Twilight" that just came out, the problem was.... I had an early morning class the day after (day of? ) this in and of itself, was dealable. I can manage with little sleep when I need to, and I planned to take a nap before hand........ the problem arose when my sleeping schedule all week was disrupted by rapid weather shifts and the terrible air quality from the recent fires. So every night I tossed and turned barely getting any significant rest. Never-the-less, the ticket had already been purchased, and being the stubborn individual I am, I was NOT going to miss it. My nap did not go well, ending up tiring me more than refreshing me. and the sleep after the movie was basically non-existent. To compensate for the back-to-back 10 hour class regime (starting at 6 am) and the lack of sleep, I kept a mountain-dew drink nearby to try and obtain the important information from my classes. .... after the first 6 hours, when I ran out of soda, I discovered just how badly I had erred. While I can pay attention for the most part, my body is constantly shivering and then spasmodically twitching in turn, I feel like an Obsessive Compulsive, or maybe a Tourrette's patient.

Quite frankly the uncontrollable twitching is very scary. ... especially as it's getting worse.... I'll be outta class finally at 4:30. (a little less than an hour away) but I'm not sure I'm attentive enough to manage rush-hour traffic.

you sound both similar too, and yet very different from the life-advice of another friend of mine. ~fader48080 is an interesting individual, and while I'm not sure you two will see eye-to-eye, I think you might find his methods interesting.
Telepathy? yes I agree... telepathy and empathy would make things much easier. and alot more pure.

like the concept of "how can you understand joy, if you haven't experiences sadness?" It's one of the unfortunate truths of the world, but I know what you mean.

well that's an interesting metaphor... I don't think I could deal with that, I'm a rather social creature when all's said and done.. I work best letting a noisy crowd drown out excess thought while I focus.

if everyone were it wouldn't be worth it would it?... well if you want to hitch on with Wal-Mart I HIGHLY suggest you step on it in time for Black Friday!!! Move boy, move!

well.... my problems with IM's... is that.... 1) I'm too popular... I can't multitask art with all the happy chatter vying for my attention. 2) I almost never REMEMBER to get on them.

but on the rare occasions I hop on... I usually pick MSN, since it whines at me the least. So we could try if you want.

I never quite get the heads thing, even though I first heard it at least four years ago. I'm not good with mathematical proportions, and heads involve too much of that.

Heh, it's just the body proportion in comparison to the head.
If you don't get it, don't worry about it too much, I don't actually use that one much myself, but I have a good eye for proportion already...

I know that, but it's still too much math.

Ah.

Very helpful! I like the idea of a box for the hips. Would it work for female hips too or no? But anyways very helpful because I need help drawing people >_< Huh, didn't know they made supermodels 9 heads tall, weird. Why do they do that?

Yes, it has to do with the angle or rotation of the hips.

something about long people being more visually appealing or something...
