Since the narrative demanded that a rousing speech, and I was available. The same way everypony gets good at public speaking.
Fictional people are just so much better at impromptu speeches that real ones.

Bro, this was wonderful. You've had in in literal tears with THIS page AND the previous one (well, ALL of them since Shining started his speech, really), and all I can say is...well done. I'm loving your comic, and THIS is why.
To be truthful, I've had family in the service over the years (we lost three cousins on my late Grandma's side of the family during WWII, and who went down with the good and venerable Battleship USS Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor, on Dec. 7, 1941 (their remains are still aboard her, in fact; the Navy divers couldn't get to their bodies to remove them, so "The Big A", as her crew called her, is their permament final resting place), so this definitely stirs my heart.
And Celestia bless Applejack for removing her hat like that. And excellent touch, that. I commennd you, sir. *salutes*
