My feet splashed through the shallow waters of the stream as I tried to locate my position on my satellite navigation. I had been allowed by Erika to explore the sanctuary located on the remote island of the coast of Route 14. With the help of the League, the island had been set up as a safe zone for many rare and unique Pokemon.

Suddenly, the air was filled with a putrid smell. It was like sulphur mixed with fomenting fruit. I recognised it immediately, I must be close to an Exeggutor.

Sure enough, round the next I found the lumbering palm coming down the bank. It must need to wade in the stream and soak up some much-needed water.

Exeggutor are incredibly rare in the wild as they only occur when Exeggcute comes in contact with the radiation of an elemental stone ‘Folium Saxum’ or more commonly known as a ‘Leaf Stone’.

Elemental stones are a marvel in science and nature, each having their own unique radiation particles. Generally harmless, they have an effect that triggers an evolutionary metamorphosis in certain Pokemon, forcing them to spontaneously evolve.

Scientists have studied these stones for generations and why they trigger the evolutionary process is still a mystery. Over the years, many more have been discovered, increasingly with Pokemon that are not native to the region, the stones were found it. This just raised more questions.
