Fun with Grimer forms between Holiday and work.
I imagine Grimer is an adaptive species.
Kantos Grimer's adapted to polluted areas and absorbed Toxic waste, slowly becoming a Poison-type.

A similar thing happened in Alola but they absorbed spilled crude oil.
Grimer in its purest form is the 'Beach form' where its both a Ground and Water type. It moves through the soft wet sand and the shallow waters of the beaches coral reefs.
Other Grimer were caught on an island where a volcano erupted, but they again adapted and became the 'Volcanic form' and can only survive inside volcanos.
Some were driven into the mountains where they made snow their home. They are often the cause of avalanches and are deemed bad luck.
Finally, other Grimer moved into marshy swamps, absorbing the pond slime and becoming Grass/Water types. It has been said that stories of zombies and ghouls were inspired by Swamp form Grimer, and you can see why!
