Description
Dratini are elusive but beautiful creatures.Unknown to many are the fact Dratini are actually Mammals. They breath air and can store huge amounts of oxygen in their system meaning they don't have to surface for air for hours, even days at a time, this makes them very hard to spot.
Dratini are sorely sought after by dragon trainers as when they evolve they become very powerful dragon pokemon.
They can live in both fresh and salt water but its found they prefer warmer fresh water and have been found in many lakes and deep ponds over the years.
They are primarily carnivores and eat fish as their main diet, but have been found to eat some forms of weed as this can help with digestion.
They have evolved to have no fins or limbs of any kind over millions of years, however when they fully evolve they transform into their air and land form Dragonite. Dratini are seen as the first stage (pupa form).
Though it does not have limbs it has grown fins on its head made of cartilage which it uses as rudders as it swims through the water.
Hope you like it

Wait, so since your Dratini is a mammal, I'm guessing that if it was an animal, its closest relatives would be animals like whales and hippos, right?

Ah, I see.
You should do a taxonomic ranks thing for all these Pokemon. You know, have it so that we can tell which Pokemon are more related to others, and which ones would be related to real life animals (ex. Dratini being in the Cetacea order). It would be interesting, and if you needed help on doing it, then I'd be willing to help out.

Please don't be insulted, but I like the older ones a bit better. They have more detail and a more natural, real feel. Although this is still amazing, it's a bit of a let down compared to your other work.

Another work in your "real" pokemon project. I guess it's time to get back to my cynical self, but there's little to complain about here.
You were nicely faithful to the original design here without it being too alien. Those eyes look just like in the book. Great work on the background, with the light, water, weeds all. The idea of a limbless, serpentine tadpole mammal is an... interesting one, but it kind of works here. You made it fitting, and I do like the inclusion of a blowhole.
Great work on the details here. You've done quite well on this pokemon.
Sorely sought after by dragon trainers indeed. It's their only choice in Kanto!

they are mammals? wow that is so unique for you story. there are still lΓ³ngs right? i like your idea of then actually being like long and serpentine whales not dragons but how are you gonna make dragonite? he doesn't look like a whale to me.

Now that is probably one of the most unique interpretations of Dratini! I would never have guessed a limbless dolphin.

The change into a mammal is an interesting one, wonder how Dragonite will change to suit this... a big flying bear thing?

yeah i guess because they look more like a dinosaur which is a reptile which is what dragons are. just guessing.
