I was visiting my brother and his family in Saffron City and he decided he wanted to take me out for the night, just us. I thought we were going out for drinks somewhere until our taxi pulled out outside ‘The Fighting Dojo’. It was a well-known establishment for big fighting-type battles. Usually, this wasn’t my kind of thing. The vast majority of fighting-type Pokemon have been selectively bred by humans over hundreds of years to specialize in a number of martial arts, there was very little ‘natural’ about them. Still, this was a big deal for my brother and the tickets were never cheap.

The arena was set up out the back of the building and could hold a surprisingly large crowd. Making our way through the crowds we found our seats.

An announcer came into the speaker and introduced the next competitors. On the bell, they threw their Pokeball’s high over the ring, and flashes of light exploded from the balls. A Primeape and a large Machoke appeared, staring out toward the crowd.

My brother turned to me, shouting over the roar, and explained that this Machoke is the current raining champion and tonight anyone could challenge it.

Then the second bell rang and the two charged at each other…

I’m not a huge fan of the more human-like Pokemon but this one didn’t turn out too bad. It's got a nice atmosphere I think.
