Description
The focus in this photo is soft, but I like the composition enough to share it. The soft focus reminds me of my photos from back in the film days somehow.I find focusing to be the biggest technical challenge with macro photography. I think the depth of focus is about a millimeter for my typical configuration. Handshaking, moving subjects, and wind are constant obstacles. Instead of using the focus ring, I focus by moving the camera closer or farther away from the subject. This means that I do not use the viewfinder, but instead use the screen on the camera. Auto-focus does not work on the 40D if you use the screen. If there is glare, I basically shoot blind. I also cannot tell if a photo was in focus until I see it on my computer. Anyway, these are my excuses for missing the focus in this photo
Sometimes I feel that I am more lucky than skilled... but as long the results convey the awesomeness of Nature, I am happy with them.

Luck is fully half of photography, I've heard that a thousand times from wildlife photogs!
I know whatchya mean about the damned screen.. my camera doesn't even have a vewfinder, so it's screen 24/7 for me, and i'm a bit far sighted, so I never know how focused my shots are 'till i get them home. Kinda part of the fun, really.. 'I got it.. but did I GET it?' like catching it all over again when you see it came out. Pokemon got nothin' on us!
