Description

Another draw from a hat and this month's poster entry project is Godzilla Raids Again, alternatively known as Gigantis The Fire Monster.  I have a lot of mixed feelings about this movie.  As a kid I was fascinated by it but could never get my hands on a copy, and then finally when I was able to give it a view I was torn between loving being able to see the only other black and white G-Film as well as the first kaiju brawl in the series versus being disenchanted with how unsatisfying I found it.  Over the years I've grown to enjoy it a lot more, especially as a period piece of the Toho golden era, but it does rank pretty low on my favorites list anyway.  I know it'll never happen but this is one of the few cases where I'd be interested to see how Toho would remake it.  Still keep it in the 1950s with the same characters of course, but it would be neat to see a more upgraded take on the film with better looking monster suits, no sped up fights and maybe a more enthralling soundtrack.

Interesting take on showcasing the dino's defeat at the hands of Godzilla....rather than them grappling....which is what a lot of images are usually depicted when people talk about this film. I like the fact that you worked Kobiashi's plane and the ice mountain ridge behind Godzilla.. It's simple but also adds a huge element to the image. It's not so much of a grab bag cluster of just random things from the movie...but rather a focus look on just a few of the highlight set pieces from it. Great work as always my man!.

Thanks, it's actually really cool that you say that because when I mapped out how I wanted to do all these posters I wanted each one to basically highlight a main moment, something that pops into my head when I think of each film as a primary memory I liked from it, so for this one it seemed like a no-brainer to be the rather savage end to the fight.  Next month's entry will be the same, a particular moment I really love to center the piece.

Yeah it's always rough seeing my bot Angy go down, I was just trying to think of some of the more visually iconic moments for this poster series and I thought it qualified.

Nice, reminds me of my first viewings of Frankenstein Conquers The World, had to set the VCR on long record to catch it during the middle of the night on TNT, sandwiched between Reptilicus and some other cheap horror film I can't remember anymore.  Man, we had to fight for our flicks back then didn't we?

yes indeed it was an act of congress  still is in a way to get the ones the way we remember seeing ( or rather hearing them ) thanks to some companies using alternative dubs .

I'll admit, the guy dying seemed a bit unnecessary, but the film wasn't all that bad

I guess at the time they were still under the model of having a tragic hero, but honestly it would have been just fine if Kobayashi had lived.

I have a soft spot for this movie for introducing Anguirus to the series and giving Godzilla his first monstrous opponent to face, but I admit its not perfect despite its historical importance. Also, definitely prefer the Japanese version over the English dub, considerably lol. I'd like to see a new film similar to this one someday, in that Anguirus serves as Godzilla's primary opponent with humanity stuck squarely in the middle of their conflict. Great artwork man, this would make a nice poster.

If Toho actually goes through with their new Tohoverse/Monsterverse of their own I pray this one inspires one of the films in that series if for no other reason than to have my boy Anguirus back and showing how well he can hold his own against the Big G.  If they turn friends by the end I don't mind but it would be super cool imho to have a sort of Raids Again-like film in the new Toho universe.

Interesting movie. Didn't like the American ver. and not as great as the other Godzilla sequels.

"Godzilla squeals" XD  I know it's just an autocorrect thing but thank you, best mental picture I've had all day, the Big G squealing like an anime schoolgirl because sempai noticed him.

Wow, it looks pretty good.
For a movie that Goji-Fans do not seem to talk about much, it's interesting that you ally now agreed to it.
I suppose maybe if Godzilla: King of the Monsters was rather a remake of this film and not of Ghidorah: The Monster with 3 heads would be more attached to the realistic Monsterverse format, even if many of us were not very interested in that.

I think ultimately remaking Ghidorah for the Monsterverse was probably a smart move.  People were so torn about G14 that they needed to deliver something BIG for part 2 to sorta "make up" for all the disappointment over the first one, and while I like G14 a lot I think KOTM19 is doing the right things by giving the fans what they asked for; more interesting humans, longer and better monster fights, and beautifully shot moments to really make it look like a classic.

And there some people weighed 3 years ago that it was almost unthinkable that a space monster such as Ghidorah, Gigan or SpageGodzilla appeared in this timeline, they said that those monsters did NOT take place in a timeline where realism was the norm, or while others requested that monsters such as Titanosaurus, Biollante or Destroyah were gradually included as some of the realists of the Toho monsters roster.
I think it's time for us to wait and see what those people will say when they see Godzilla: King of the Monsters, so many producers ventured into the realm of fantasy from the realistic format of the previous installment ...
