Part of a series of designs for , one of the most agreeable kaiju fans I've had the pleasure of meeting
ADDENDUM: Allow me to elaborate on the creative process -
The directive was "Godzilla Raids Again," and that was about it. Immediately, I thought of the contrast between Godzilla and Anguirus, and how, according to a few eye-witness accounts, the Gyakushu-Goji was something of a gray-green, maybe a little on the brown side, as Godzilla was frequently depicted in promotional art at the time. So, I ran with a much more desaturated brownish-Godzilla, which gives him a toned-down, yet still ancient and menacing palette to contrast Anguirus, who was reportedly a mix of blues and reds!
As for the body, I also was reminded of how much slimmer and agile Gyakushu-Goji was when compared to Shodai-Goji (the original Godzilla), and it wasn't a far leap to Finaru-Goji (from Final Wars) as well. Naturally, I wanted to squeeze in some elements of GINO and the Delgado-Goji to give him a sleek, fast and strong look - the perfect fighting machine. However, most importantly, I wanted Godzilla to be proud and noble, with a puffed-out chest, and his head held high, but with a slight incline to indicate his saurian bone structure.
I also decidedly wanted to involve his fearsome breastbone, something rarely elaborated on in past Godzilla designs - That prominent breastbone is usually why so many Godzilla toys have a light silver tone on the chest. It gives him a bit more balance too, and allows for his front visage to have some variety.
I specifically referenced Mosu-Goji for the face, with some gangly teeth ala the Gyakushu/Mire-Goji's. The spines are a personal touch, developed from Godzilla Neo's. The tail is, obviously, Delgado-Goji inspired with a crocodilian flair.
Anguirus next!

Not bad, I like how it resembles past designs of the creature. His body look very sleek and almost every part of him is refined and detailed.
There's just one problem with it: His legs and feet look WAY too puffy, and seem to throw him off. I WOULD say he looks fearsome, but he just looks silly with those thunder-thighs.
But, it's just my opinion, otherwise it looks OK.

This is amazing! My one qualm is the lack of 'Toothiness'. Or maybe thats because none of the suits could ever close their mouths properly.

Well I can tell you that If anyone at Toho had any sense at all that the should try to use this design. I have been a long standing Godzilla fan and like many have said your version moves it into a modern monster while keeping some of his old look intact.*sniff* its too beautiful for my eyes.

i am the biggest Godzilla fan
EVER!!!
i absolutely HATE IT when the original design is toyed with
for instance, SONY's 1997 design was a mistake, and an insult to the Original King in so many ways
but I LOVE THIS!!!
it maintains his retro design
while bringing him into the more "practical" design, of movie creatures today
the idea of him 'toe-walking' always bothered me, but you've pulled it off beautifully without turning him into a mutant T-Rex
Thank You
I await Anguirus, with the utmost anticipation!

No, I'm the biggest Godzilla fan, lol. Just kidding. But the REAL largest Godzilla fan should be Ishiro Honda himself, cuz he created him!

If Legendary Pictures DOES get a Godzilla movie rolling, they should just call you when it comes to creature design. Seriously.

I love how long his tail is... On Zilla, it was for the natural "dinosuar balance" look. With Godzilla, it's just fucking awesome.

I've been watching you since 05 Samurai and I'm never disappointed when viewing your gallery. You defined with the aid of Godzilla "old and new", I have 1954 Godzilla toy with me and the subtle yet apparent changes are exemplary. The higher set heels and only three toes touching the ground give him a more feral look. The rectangular box shaped head just roars "I AM THE KING!!!" I would love if even there were a miniscule chance to see this version in a movie someday.
Great job proving once again the reason Godzilla is the one and only king of monsters.

They did that in the Marvel Comics Godzilla series. He fought the Fantastic Four. And really kicked the crap out of them for a good while, until they got lucky
