Description Reposted because dA has converted the original deviation into a text deviation.

Until I've found a way to fix it, we'll need to do it this way.

Awww. I can understand stories are hard. My room mate writes short stories I've seen how stressed she gets!

I've written some fanfic drabbles and oneshots, but nothing longer than 2000 words... I wrote a story back when I was 13, but it was long, with too big words and now that I re-read it, absolutely awful. T_T

I know how you feel. XD I have quite a few stories like that. I'm not a very good writer

Everyone with practice can achieve the same skill level, talent is just a thing that makes you reach that level faster. I don't consider myself to be a bad writer (and we could talk ages about what exactly makes a bad writer *bad*), but I don't have a writing drive or the constance to keep writing once I've started, so I stick to drawing.

Mmm, I feel the same way.

@___@;; I keep hoping that all the activity I see in my feed might be someone offering to buy one of my adoptables but I just see a lot of favorites. I put them in a bunch of groups but there's still no one who wants to buy.

Karijn-s-Basement In reply to Free-Falling [2013-01-26 21:19:22 +0000 UTC]

Well, I saw only 4, so not exactly a bunch... Mine are submitted to at least 50, if I want to try and sell something and often they're always snatched up by my usual customers. I took the liberty of adding them to some more groups.

And I once had to wait for nearly a year to sell an adoptable, despite starting out with very underpriced adoptables... In the beginning it's always a bit hard, but once you start going, it's an easy road. But I've met some adoptable artists that gave up because their one or two adoptables weren't bought soon enough (some after a month, one even after an hour...).

Everybody is doing adoptables right now so the offer is very high and people now look for high quality and low prices... Something that is not very common, so my trick was coming up with an 'originality' offer. You can have a horse from everyone at every price, but my species can only be adopted through me, so it's not the client that sets the price, but it's me. My luck is that my species are well liked, and I've been snatching up some interesting new ones to re-vamp.

SO you just need to get some more exposure and be patient.

<3 You're awesome Thank you!

Wow, really? After only an hour? XD That's insane.

So would it be better to just come up with characters that are really unique or make my own animal and sell those?

Karijn-s-Basement In reply to Free-Falling [2013-01-26 21:30:21 +0000 UTC]

Yes, they were using one of my bases and asked me why they didn't sell. When I looked at the timer I saw it was submitted less than an hour before... It's not like people stand in line to buy, unless you're one of those 1-million artists that have thousands of watchers and commissioners.

And it's all about what you feel more comfortable with, if you think you can give your best with human/kemonomimi designs or with OS designs. I started out with creatures because they were all the rage a year and half ago, when I started, but then human designs came out too and I added some too, just to make sure I still knew how to draw people.

I might have to try that then. I have quite a few monster designs. Not too long ago I essentially tried to make my own version of a pokemon-like game. So I've got a stock pile that need to be inked

Free-Falling In reply to Karijn-s-Basement [2013-01-28 18:16:47 +0000 UTC]

Now the question is, how do I convert points to cash? XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Karijn-s-Basement In reply to Free-Falling [2013-01-28 19:05:19 +0000 UTC]

The payer must send you the points through the Purchase Button.

Unfortunately you can't convert points to cash by yourself (I tried, the admins returned the points to my main account and took away the money from my earnings), but you can set up a Purchase Button that people can use. I usually put it on the deviation itself, but you can create a specific deviation just for that.

Be warned though, that since you don't have a PM, dA will probably take $1 for every transfer to paypal you'll make, so it would be better to build up a bit of money and then trasfer everything in one go.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Free-Falling In reply to Karijn-s-Basement [2013-01-28 19:34:18 +0000 UTC]

o.o;; how do I do that? The person already sent me points.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Karijn-s-Basement In reply to Free-Falling [2013-01-28 19:39:15 +0000 UTC]

I generally give them back and then direct them to the deviation with the purchase button. Most of them don't mind, it's just an extra passage.

You can add it by editing the deviation's setting and add the 'Premium Content' option. Then you need to attach a file to it (you can use a copy of the submitted deviation), decide a price for the button and then update the settings.

Free-Falling In reply to Karijn-s-Basement [2013-01-28 20:01:56 +0000 UTC]

@___@;; such a pain in the butt! I think I got it to work now but I feel bad about asking them to resubmit points. I'll use this as a learning tool and hold onto the points just in case.

The submission system is so confusing... I wish it was more clear.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Karijn-s-Basement In reply to Free-Falling [2013-01-28 20:26:34 +0000 UTC]

There was a tutorial in the beginning that explained everything, but then sta.sh changed so much that it became unusable... I think that most point commissioners (who have paypal) don't use the purchase button because they don't know how to set it or because it's a bit of a hassle to set it up.

One of my two best friends graduated in Japanese language and culture, I've tried starting it in high school, but I couldn't deal with the different alphabet... The lazyness was already setting in.

*laugh* I got a game called My Japanese Coach that really does help with the basic alphabets in a way that you can't teach with paper. I managed to learn hiragana and katakana over winter break when I got it a few years ago. Kanji is hard though!

Haven't heard of that one. Yeah, it's for DS :3 Most of the games I play are actual games too but it was really helpful because of how it was laid out. Plus, "vocabulary quizes" are minigames

It's a dungeon crawling game, I love them, along with turn-based RPGs like Fire Emblem.
The only not-only-game I have is Art Academy.

Haven't played that one but I've seen it around. Is it good?

Also, Fire Emblem! Yay! <3 XD But it's so difficult keeping all the characters alive to the end. I enjoy Final Fantasy Tactics too-- your army members aren't gone permanently when they're defeated

Karijn-s-Basement In reply to Free-Falling [2013-01-25 20:20:17 +0000 UTC]

I like the art and the general gameplay (I love long games), the music is awesome too, but some have complained that there are not enough animations, that the 'crawling' and 'levelling' is annoying... I think they bought the wrong game, I think it's one of the best I've ever seen of that genre.

Not that many of them have been made for portable consoles... But you can draw the map yourself and that is definitely an added bonus, I love that aspect of the game.

I have a question (and I hope I don't sound too stupid for asking). But a lot of people I see have two accounts for their adoptables and I was wondering how this worked. Do you have to make a second email address to do this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Karijn-s-Basement In reply to bobismyname1 [2013-01-18 22:16:45 +0000 UTC]

There are no stupid questions, just stupid answers, used to say my professor. But I'm almost sure he stole that from somebody.

In any case, I simply logged out of my main account, and then registered another one. And yes, they both have the same mail address. (I guess you can use a second one, if you want.)
It's different if you think about sharing your adoptables account with someone, in which case, perhaps it's better to create a new mail address that everyone has access to. Personally I think that shared account are a bit messy (two or more styles of writing/making art, watchers that want to follow just one of the many artists...) but they're a nice group excercise if you have the time and patience to do it.
