Third of my anime/movie crossover series. Excel Saga meets End of Evangelion. Okay, its an anime/anime crossover, but it still works.Could you imagine the insanity that would result if Nabeshin (Director Watanabe Shinichi) got his hands on Evangelion?

Yeah, though I would consider this more of a period piece. It seems like End of Evangelion and Excel Saga are starting to fade into obscurity (at least in anime popularity circles). But then, most con-goers are Narutards, Poke'nuts, Yu-Gi-Oh-Noes, and /B/tards these days (I made the middle two of those up just now, lol).
I miss the late 90's, back when Anime was still unique, and hadn't yet succumbed to "popular mainstream" or industry standards of what's "marketable"

Man I'm with you. It's why I'm so astounded by classic anime. Clamp really does some awesome shit recently, so anything by them is definately worth your time dude (Tsubasa really gives off that classic anime look and feel). I myself still watch such wonders as Cutey Honey (any of the series), Birdy the Mighty (old), BlackJack and Wind of Amnesia.

and what about the oldschool Cyberpunk style? Bubblegum Crisis (the OAVs, not 2040... though I really liked 2040 too), Black Magic M-66, Appleseed, hell anything from Masamune Shirow.
And lets not forget the timeless classics that are Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli (Nausicaa, Totoro, Kiki, Porco Rosso, even Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro)
