I put out a handful every day.  There are about 6 birds in their clan and they all show up to claim their prizes which they carry off to hide in secret chaches.  I would guess that about half the local pines owe their existence to poor memories on the part of the jays, since they do tend to forget where they hid things.

Yeah, sort of like that with squirrels to, from what I understand and have observed at times.  It is funny to watch a squirrel dig and then run off some place close and dig again as if it looking for a buried treasure and can't find it.

Thank you!   I did some editing on the photo to improve it...but even so, the best lighting always seems to come first thing in the morning, or last thing in the afternoon.
