Commission for a friend. The following elements were requested: 1)The Superstition Mountains (which are visible from her yard)with special emphasis on how, at this time of day, the cliffs and shadows create a girl's face over on the left end of the mountains (I tweeked the landscape a bit to bring it out). 2) A full moon ( quite a bit larger than it would actually appear) 3) Her pet parrots (Davey Crockett, the White Fronted Caique, and Madame Grey, the African Grey). 4) Her pet Desert Tortoise, Romeo (alas, there was no room for Romeo, so he will get his own portrait some day)
I was at a loss as to how to accomplish all this until I remembered how she once told me about how she would see the quail leading their chicks along the top of the cinder block wall that borders her property...this gave me the idea of adding the adobe wall with the quail...and her two parrots. Over in the cactus, lower right, I added my own pet bird, Kaylee the Green Cheek Conure who was a gift from the same lady. Since the prickly pears were starting to bloom at my house, I decided to add them as well.
