Description HEY, Y'ALL, GUESS WHAT?

I think we've all heard of the complaints, the whining, from hardcore het supporters. "Slash fans just pair guys up randomly JUST so they can have their slash! It doesn't matter if it makes sense at all, they just need to have their gay! Heck, it doesn't even matter of the two guys KNOW each other -- if they're the only two guys in the series, they WILL be paired."

Okay, this is true, a lot of the time. XD But I'd like to point out that slash fans aren't the only people who do this.

Look at Ouran High School Host Club, and Fruits Basket. Both of them have, essentially, ONE female lead and TONS of male leads. The other females in the series are THERE, yes, but they aren't really main characters. So, in result, Tohru has been paired with EVERY male member of the Sohma family, and Haruhi has been paired with EVERY member of the Host Club, and then some. XD To be honest, I think that Hunny/Mori is more plausible than Haruhi/Mori or Haruhi/Hunny, but it still exists...

And let's not forget the most recent Sherlock Holmes movie, which made it seem as if Irene and Mary were only placed in there to counteract the gay. XD

Don't even get me started on Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts.

So... just trying to debunk another anti-slash argument, as I love so much to do. XD

Not a big fan of slash personally but I'm not going to disagree that het pairings can be pretty random too. Sometimes I think all fandom cares about is theΒ pairings.Β Mary is in the Sherlock Holmes movies because she was the wife of Watson in theΒ originalΒ stories. They could've done a better job though. She didn't feel like an important character and it wasn't obvious that Watson loved her like in the stories (even when she wasn't directly in the story, Watson still talked about her). I much prefer her in BBC Sherlock where she's a really important, badass character and Sherlock, John and Mary are so close that some people are actually shipping them as a threesome. I don't think Holmes and Irene was supposed to be serious, she just liked to flirt with him a lot. I think I prefer aro ace Holmes though, like in other versions.

it's not really het because one character is implied to be bi and the other one is "dear god how could anybody think she's straight or gay" bi, but a guilty ship of mine is naegi/tsumiki from the danganronpa series.

it's f/m and it's crack as all hell since those two haven't even interacted on screen, but i love it.

I have seen random hetero pairings with Harry Potter and there's tons of them, for example Harry x Kagome, Harry x Hinata, Harry x Sakura, Harry x Katara, Harry x Sif and Fem!Harry x Thorin.

Your point about Irene and Mary reminds me of how Clara is just there in BTTF 3 just for pretty much the same reason.

THANK YOU!
It always annoyed me how people are like "oh no! Don't ship (insert Yuri/yaoi pairing here)! They're just friends!" and then ship a guy with another girl and they are just friends as well.

Do crossover pairings count? Because if they do, here's some really random (and rather blegh) het ships I found while lurking about:
Cat(CatDog) x Aqua (Kindgom Hearts)
Dog (CatDog) x Yoshino Fujieda (Digimon Digital Savers)
Peter Parker x Twilight Sparkle
Peter Parker x Princess Luna
Sonic x Rainbow Dash
Peg Pete x Tony the TigerΒ
I'd add more pairings, but I don't wish to scar you anymore than I already have

What about Kagome from Inuyasha she's paired with every character in the anime verse, Females included.

It's so funny and disturbing.

There are a lot of random het pairs outthere and I even support some of them.

I like to ship Ryou Bakura and Mana from Yuugiou... but they don't even know each other! I just like to think about them and use my imagination how they could meet and how they would react to each other. I don't mind that this is crack or random. It's not true that only yaoi fans build strange couples. Het fans do this as well. ^^

A fictional couple doesn't have to make sense at all as long as you like it!

OMG I completely agree. I slash many kinds of characters from many fandom and get ranted about them being random and annoying. Then I look upon your argument and completely agree. There are some Het pairings that frustrate me cause their random.

This is true. Although, really the whole Watson/Mary pairing isn't actually random. He actually meets Mary in The Sign of Four and they are married in the stories (he proposed at the end of The Sign of Four).

Irene and Holmes isn't so ridiculous either, as she is the only woman to ever impress him...

This is true about Watson and Mary. But Mary hasn't been a part of many Sherlock Holmes movies in the past, since she was only in one story.

The case of Irene and Holmes frustrates me. A man can be impressed with a woman without being in love with her.

SayuriTsukikoChan In reply to Kellatrix [2010-08-22 22:35:44 +0000 UTC]

She was in more than one, only briefly though.

And you're right about Irene and Holmes, but it can be seen either way. Each to their own, you know?

Kellatrix In reply to SayuriTsukikoChan [2010-08-22 22:38:01 +0000 UTC]

I didn't say she was ONLY in this one -- I just said she wasn't in very many. And even professional critics saw the sexual tension between Holmes and Watson in the 2009 movie. It just seems to me like Irene and Mary are the only argument against it. XD But as you said, to each their own.

I just hate it when they place a woman in there so they "obviously cannot be gay because there are women so there". :/ It seems to happen with a lot of shows/movies/games etc and it really pisses me off. If we're gonna have an obvious and incredible sexually tense relationship with a member of the same sex (usually two men), then a partner of the opposite sex (most of the time, a woman) doesn't belong there as anything other than as a reason to explain why they AREN'T gay.

If we're gonna have a real het relationship, make it count. Make them actually in love.

PlatinumAlchemist In reply to Kellatrix [2010-08-21 06:58:55 +0000 UTC]

I've had this on my mind for quite some time. XD It seems not only disrespectful by making gay out to be something that should be hidden, but also disrespects women by showing them as the one thing preventing a relationship between two men. A lot of het shippers wonder why slash fans bash the women, well, because they're not really developed as characters, and they're just sort of... there.

AND YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU TOO DAMN
