Description
WARNING: LARGE file ahead!!!I was simply blown away by how many people were interested in seeing a tutorial on how I draw the curls for my characters' hair.
Still, I hope this gives some people an idea about how I do them - and ways that you can practice and learn with until you develop your own style.
As for the picture, it will eventually be another one of my berry princess'. This one for 'Blackberries'.

oh yay, and here it is! haha. This is soo differenet from how I draw curls, you make yours more defined and weighty and sproing-y. I tend to just draw the outlined shape of a curl and leave it like that but draw a million of them XD haha. I'll try out this method though, it works much better for actually colouring the hair

If you wanted just curls (As in without the tied up bit aswell) would you just do the same but with more strands of hair?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
KeyshaKitty In reply to o-rion [2006-07-03 00:17:17 +0000 UTC]
Pretty much - you just need to draw the top parts of the curls wider (thicker) to give more weight for the start of the hair up behind your character's head).

Gelpens are pens that are seethru and full of colourfull shiny gel. They can come in sets at stores like Home depot or staples or something :] they help make glossy shines and metal objects or hair.

Hey great tutorial
I think i may have got some inspiration to draw again too
yay!
I have one question though, whereabouts can you get the markers you use for colouring, and how much are they?
I hate using pencils so most of my pictures are uncoloured :S
lol
this has been a great help tho, thx

I'm sorry, but I'm really no good at directing people to where to get markers (since I get mine from my local store, and I live in New Zealand). My best advice would be to research at your local art suppliers and find a way of getting them there (that or ebay. If all else fails, ebay it. X3).

Oh me oh my, I LOVE YOU! Or rather, I love you for deciding to do this. It will be so helpful to so many people, so a thousand thank-you's, Kai! ^.^
I'm also rather facinated...How do you get your dark pencil so light before you ink? I've never seen that done before.
Beautiful character too, a wonderfull tutorial!

Oh, that's just a bit of photoshop for the tutorial. XD I darkened the sketches in the sketch pictures so that they'd show up better on people's moniters. My pencil stuff usually scans in pretty light.

Hehehe, that's awesome! And it helps, as I now know why my curls look so stiff and starched, hehehe. I blame it largely on lack of practice, but I'm happy that I'm at least using a method that may one day turn out as pretty as yours!

this raspberry stauff makes a good homade iced tea yum
and twinnings does have decent teas. Oh, and i personaly like ginger with hiney tea... get some ginger, chop it up, pour boiling water on it.. dont bother with buying a ginger tea, just the root.

I got my copic markers from an art supply store in Hong Kong, since they import them straight from Japan.
but, for the record, I didn't use copics on this pic (at least, not the coloured parts of this tutorial).
