Description
WARNING: LARGE file ahead!!!I was simply blown away by how many people were interested in seeing a tutorial on how I draw the curls for my characters' hair.
Still, I hope this gives some people an idea about how I do them - and ways that you can practice and learn with until you develop your own style.
As for the picture, it will eventually be another one of my berry princess'. This one for 'Blackberries'.

Ah, I had always wondered what method you had used to create such lovely curls... Well now, that answers my question, doesn't it?
Your berry princesses make me hungry. Very hungry. o_o
Either way, thankyou for making this tutorial! I learned some very cool new methods that I can now shift and apply to my own works!! That's what I like about tutorials the most... just learning new things...
Thanks!

This style reminds me of a project I did in art class where we drew spheres floating (in space?) and had ribbon-things curling around them...a lot of people didn't get that once a ribbon curls around it doesn't just "dissapear" and you have to do the rest of it going around the back...
*reminisces*
Oh! Anywho, very nice. I don't think I'd have the patience to do that many curls, though. XD And this is just yet another example of why real people do not look like anime characters...Her hair would be so fricking scary in real life XD AAAAH THE CURLS ARE ATTACKING!

Thank you so much for this tutorial.
I came up with a character and her hair was a HUGE amount of curls, but I've been too afraid to draw her because of her hair.
Now I can finally attempt it!

This is great! Really informative, helpful and clear I love how you've displayed the different steps.. they're very easy to follow and understand. I admire how much time you must have put into this. I suck at making tutorials 'cause I just rush through everything X3; I'll have to take some pointers from you. Brilliant work with this! Your curls are indeed very pretteh :3

*o* And now I can finally do curly hair that doesn't look all weird! HUZZAH!
XDD Apparently I've been doing it almost exactly like this, except by the time I reach the second curl down I either get lazy or I screw up and the curl ends up looking a little.. strange. This will DEFINATELY be useful. ;D

I've run into your work once before and thought the curls were amazingly gorgeous. Finding a tutorial was unexpected but definitely appreciated! I've always had trouble drawing ringlets and this could very well help a great deal!
That, and it's absolutely beautiful art.
Definitely a +fav!

Thank you for making this for us all. I think people are interested in a curly hair tutorial because curly hair seems to be a minority in drawings of characters because it is more complex than straight hair, so people don't generally learn how to do it themselves. Most of the time, people resort to just drawing wavy lines (like I do) to represent curly hair, without going through all the effort that you showed us here.
I'm definately going to use your advice next time.

Huzzah! You were able to have the time (and patience) to do this tutorial -- cograts on that! This will definitely help a lot of deviants with their curls, as well as mine. And you went all out to show the coloring process, too -- I'm impressed! (Just observing the step-step process without written instructions is good enough for me.)
The hard part now is gonna be using this guideline as an aid for creating one's own style that isn't imitation-Kai
Thank you very much for sharing this with us! I can definitely see this making to Today's Fafourites

I'm afraid they are.
I use either Mitsubishi, Copic or Microns for inking - these ones with mitsubishi Uni pin inks.
The markers...well...I already wrote what they were on the actual tutorial.
