Description
PLEASE NOTE: I will NOT answer questions asking me what stores/online stores to buy art supplies from. As I've stated hundereds of times over, I live in New Zealand. NOT America, England, what-ever-land ect - and thus I'd have no clue. My art supplies I either buy in New Zealand, Hong Kong when I visit, or my friends overseas send them to me.Besides, there's a program called google if you want to find an online art store. Because I don't buy stuff online, I wouldn't have a clue where you could look. sorry.
Anyhow, message aside, I'm taking a page out of the books and making one of these like *Marit and *Wennichelle but darn...I use so much different stuff, I had to make this tutorial in two-parts. The one with markers and pencils will come sometime in the future (but may be a long time yet with the stuff I've got to do).
Hope this helps a little, in any case.

Sweet, I really like this, as well as the fact you took the time to put this together. This gives me a lot of good supplies to look for in the future, thank you for doing this and letting us know some good stuff we can use! Great tips for beginners such as myself who are sort of new messing with traditional media still.
Can't wait for part two *faves*

That's so amayzing!!! i love to see what people use, specially when there's loads of stuff. ah, dang canada eh? we have nothing here. T_T;; (or so not in quebec..) but i think i should try getting myself some white gel pens, those look really useful... and i'd really like to buy myself good markers, exept i don't know which type i should buy, considering that although copics look really good they're waaay too expensive for me...

Ooh, you use Microns! I do too...I rather like them...but I mostly just use the 005 and 01 sizes...I may try the other sizes, but maybe I'll try those Mitsubishi Uni pin inks...I think I know a good store that sells those here where I live...
Hmm...*writes in her notepad* Find...Copic Markers...It seems like many artists use those pens...I'm curious to see how well these art pens work...
So THAT'S what you use for the white highlights! *scribbles furiously in her artpad for these pens*
Eh, I was taught how to paint, and did a really good job of it...but...I dunno...I seem to enjoy sketching more than I do painting...but I should go back to painting. Maybe I will. But not with oils. Not a big fan of something that smells so horribly that it kills thousands of my braincells every 15 minutes...I like acrylics cuz I've worked with them more and they're easier to clean up...
YES! Finally another artist who uses the clicky pencil! LOL
*Looks* Aww, you have a nicer pencil than I do...
What kind of eraser do you use? I forget what the brand is, but I have this kind that's square-shaped, rather clay-like, gray in colour...it doesn't leave any eraser poo, and cleans up nicely, it works so much better than an ordinary eraser...damn, wish I could remember what it was called...

Oh well. I'll remember next time I go to an art store.

Very nice, Kai. I must ask, though it's best to save this probably for part two--how do you keep your stuff organized? I have too many markers and not really an organizer or something for them. I end up using drawers to separate warms and cools @_@;

XD Oh gosh...all my markers just sit in a bigggggg shoe-box (actually, boot-box! X3) Sans my most important trias (skin tones ect) that I keep in the 24-set satchel that I have for 'em.

Mechanical pencils are the ultimate sketching tool. I don't care who says that regular pencils are better, because I wholeheartedly disagree.
I've tried those copics and sakuras before... and never again. I personally have found recently that PaperMate Flair pens do wonders for inking. You'll see what I mean when I get around to posting some character cards I've been working on.
I've also seen that Canson paper in a store called Pat Catan's, but have never personally bought any.
And I LOVE the way you drew the Mew Mew girls!!! <3

I know. I used to get ALL the hassel from my art teachers that I need to use regular pencils (and NEVER HB!) but frankly, clicky pencils are nice and clean, and as are the HB leads for illustration (honestly...soft-leaded pencils are not very good for illustrations that need ink and such to them...too messy. X3)

I find Bockingford paper really good for my linearts and pencil drawings- you seen anything beter for that? I guess you're more into the marker side, so glossy paper is good, and texture is bad (texture is good for me)

Yeah, you and I are different kinds of artists, but for my marker work, Bockingford really does not like me. X3

awsome o_O!
thanks for the paper tips and pens!! ^^- Now i know what types are good for what kind of art..
btw, does the hybrid or mitsubishi white gel pens clog when drawing on waxy surfaces, like color pencils? I cant seem to find one that doesnt clog

KeyshaKitty In reply to apkyo [2006-12-25 05:12:15 +0000 UTC]
Like I said, any kind of gel pen will clog on waxy pencil work - because the wax of the pencil isn't easy for them to draw out onto - you've just gotta keep unclogging them. ^^

Thanks for sharing all that with us I've recently started using the Uni pens you put there [for over a year I've been using Faber Castell PITT], and they do such a great job! As do Copic markers, and the one Kurecolor I have. They don't sell anything like Prismacolor or Sakura here, but do you recommend Prismacolor markers? [I'm planning to try both its markers and pencils in the new year]. Is it also worth getting a clickable pencil? Because I'm used to the messier graphite sticks and normal pencils. I've got a box of Reeves gouache too which I barely used since I bought them 2 years ago :/
Very interesting piece Keysha-chan.

KeyshaKitty In reply to MableTheRabbid [2006-12-25 05:17:55 +0000 UTC]
Actually, out of all the markers I use, I wouldn't reccomend PrismaColor. A much better investment is either Tria or Copic. Not only are their inks better and smoother (the brush tips on copics are oh-so-wonderful too!) but they're refillable - making them a much better investment money-wise.
Yup! Clickable pencil is very, very handy.

I've allways wondered what you use...its a far greater variety than what I use... (Sakura microns because they are usually the only inking pens in stock at the art shop) and Prismacolor Pencil/markers because I can't afford Copics yet D=
thooough I might slide into painting soon...
