Description
My first tutorial, created on a whim because ~toxic-paradise asked me how I made the blinky eye. A three-hour whim XD I need to get a life.Careful, it's huge.
Anyway, first tutorial, if something's confusing please ask.
Tutorial is about the GIMP; I don't think it'd work with other programs, sorry. It might, you never know. I certainly don't.
Blinky eye found here [link]
EDIT: Okay, so the main question I'm running into is about the transparencies. Basically, the way the animation works in GIMP is that it stacks the layers on top of one another. It doesn't swap one out for another. So if you have transparencies, you're going to see the lower layers behind them.
Another thing: When you hit "Optomize" (Why, no, I can't spell, how did you guess?) what happens is that GIMP takes your GIF and turns everything that's repeated into transparencies. So say you have a blue background with a little stick figure dancing on it. You would probably put the blue background on every frame. GIMP would then replace the background with transparencies eveywhere that it didn't change.
That doesn't make sense. Um... it makes your filesize a lot smaller, and it therefore good.

What a great tutorial! ^^ I got GIMP a long time ago and got rid of it because I was so lost. @_@ But then I saw your tutorial and I got it again and I'm very glad I did! XD Thank you so much! You did such a wonderful job on this!
But um... I'd like to bring up a question. In some instances doing animations on GIMP the previous frames stay and the later ones overlap it. How can I fix this problem? @_@

One thing I don't get, how did you clear the backround from the backround copy?

Kieti In reply to BleachxMe [2007-08-15 01:54:13 +0000 UTC]
Um. I didn't, actually, but if you want your background transparent you have to just make a new layer, delete the original background, and use that new layer as your background. Is that what you meant?

Uh, well, nevermind. But is there a way to put your scanned images into animation?

Just change the length of time. To make it slower, make that number that you type in bigger.

Ha, it's not flash, and it doesn't really work for anything complex, but you can do brief, simple things, like an avatar or a random eye XD

Kieti In reply to MitsukuniAnise [2007-08-04 23:14:15 +0000 UTC]
Well, that's just you drawing the next frame. You make it lower opacity, which means you can see the last frame through it, which makes it easier to copy.

Erm, if you did the actual frames by hand in paper and then scanned them in to the computer, how do you get it so that you can still make it into an animation?
