HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!Here, have a Shadowgate excerpt:
The rock surged upward. Jasmine screamed again, kicking and struggling as it flowed over her ankles.
"Jasmine!" shouted Lief in terror. He began to scramble downward, recklessly turning to reach for her.
"No!" Jasmine shrieked. "It is too late! Lief, go on!"
The rock had enfolded her to her waist. Desperately she pulled Filli from beneath her jacket, whispered to him, and pushed him onto the stair above her.
Wailing but obedient, Filli bounded up the stairs towards Lief and leaped onto his shoulder.
"Go," Jasmine shouted. "Lief you must!"
But Lief could not leave her. And when she saw that, Jasmine lifted her hands and let herself fall back, disappearing into the mass of rock as if it were quicksand.
WHOA. Just, whoa... He can't leave her behind, she sacrifices herself for him... That is TRUE true love. Oh, and read the books people if you haven't, just read the books.
I love this one so much more than the first one ([link] ), it's amazing what changing the perspective around can do. I hope you love it too, and I really hope it doesn't upset you too much on your birthday and all...

Yeah all my 'normal' friends (aka the ones I went to school with and see a lot) don't watch anime, read manga or pretty much any book at all (save really depressing ones and Twilight) so I'm really glad when I make internet friends who I can chat non-stop about these things with.
Well at least you now know that ANY random DQ thing is welcome to be discussed at length with either/both of us.

Let me think... That witch Sheba in the Rowan books could predict the future. But I guess Opal the Dreamer already does that. Ooh! There's one in her Rondo trilogy that just knows everything. She can't predict the future but she knows everything there is to know about the present and the past. That's a different type of power.

Oh that's a really cool one! Perhaps it should be limited a little though. knowing EVERYTHING seems a bit extravagant for a plains power. But thats a really awesome concept.

Yeah, weather powers are cool too! The Travellers from those Rowan books could control the wind, so it's even a power Rodda likes using.

What about being able to communicate with someone on the other side of Deltora. You know how Sheba in Rowan and the Zebak could offer Rowan and his friends advice by talking to them through the fire even though they were in another land. Something like that maybe.
Or even like Paff does in Deltora, going into a trance and being able to move around in a different form. I thought that was cool!

I think if they were changed slightly they'd be good and non-shadowlordish. What do you think of something like being able to see through the eyes of others? People, animals or both.

The actual people of Noradz don't seem to have any powers though. Like it actually is only the ones who grow up on the plains or are born on them or something. Towns aren't affected by the PlainsPowers or something. Do you know if Opal's parents were born on the plain or merely moved there later? That would help us understand the nature of the abilities. Like if it's the landscape istelf that affects the children.
That reminds me of 'Picnic at Hanging Rock' for some reason.

I figure since Steven's - well, Steven, his children have a fair chance of being affected. I imagine Tira and their children would spend a lot of time with Grandma Bee unless they travel with Steven everywhere.

It will. It will. The series is a best-seller, heaps of people on DA must've read it and just not be a part of any clubs or anything. One day the love will've spread amongst so many artists that one of them will make an artwork that everyone will love, favourite, and make it to the front page.
