Summary

  Markus thinks about the previous day's events, and we get a little closer to why he won't confess to Emilia. Bitrary City is a rural small town where words are cheap and rumors spread like ketchup. Emilia is well-liked by most of the community, but there are still some older members set in their ways who don't think she deserves to live here and are moderately loose-lipped about it. When that number was larger, it really had a negative effect on Emilia's self-esteem. Markus tried to help her out in those early days by directly combating the foes, but it only ended with him looking like a saint, and her looking like a dependent woman who needed his help to survive. It wasn't good for either of them, so Markus stopped openly running to Emilia's aid so frequently. He supports her instead, whenever he can. But it's pretty clear to see that the opinions of Bitrary still weigh on both of them. And something about Markus getting together with Emilia will spurn more rumors, at least in his eyes. Markus can't do that to her.

  Life would be so much simpler if everyone had the naïve eyes of a child. Markus makes that connection as Mimi passes. She's about to run into the woods to have a tea party with Mewtwo. Markus briefly admires the innocence of youth, where children don't need to worry about factions or rumors spread by others. Mimi has actually worried about the latter before, but right now? Right now, she isn't. She's happily playing. Markus wishes for a world where all kids get to play like that, without saddling themselves with adult thoughts.

  Sparked by that concept, Markus gets an idea. Something to distract him from his thoughts. He gets up and goes off into the Fey Forest. He doesn't come back.

  Mimi does. She goes to eat lunch with Emilia hours later, and is in the clinic when a worried Torch pops by to ask if anyone's seen Markus. Mimi tells him that she had, but it was hours ago. Emilia, hearing all this, gets worried. She did just fight with him, after all. Now he's gone missing?! Driven into her anxieties, Emilia grows restless. Mimi notices this, and suggests they all go looking for Markus. He's probably just out doing Markus things. Emilia agrees, and the three split up.

  Mimi decides to ask the Forest Sprites for help. They're rather busy with their own problems right now, though. A hole has appeared in the Fey Forest.

  Mimi, being Mimi, leaps through it without thinking.

  Wuh-oh.
