Description
Comments: I wanted to make a tutorial or guide that would help others in the comic/manga world. This is part 5 and covers basically the coloring process using the infamous COPIC Sketch Markers. Many aspiring manga/anime artists long for these kinds of markers and I believe the reason is simply because well known manga artists use them, such as Masashi Kishimoto, the author of Naruto and CLAMP, authors of Carcaptor Sakura, Tsubasa Chronicle, Chobits and much more.I personally find COPICs are very pricey and maybe over rated, however I chose them since they blend well, because of the range of colors available is quite large, and they are refillable. If you can't afford COPIC markers, or can't buy them, then any alcohol based marker is just as good!

SUPER great tutorial! I just got some copic markers as a present, and I've been trying to get some techniques down. Your marker tutorials are a HUGE help that I'll probably come back to more than once Thank you for posting this!!!!

Sorry for the late reply!
Where I live, there's either some art store that has some in the graphic design section, but not always.
Or Staples has some, but most times at Staples it's in some 3 pack with 2 other colours. Even then I don't always find it. It's not as popular.
You can also buy Col-Erase pencils, they're like coloured pencils only they erase much better compared to colored pencils. They're designed for sketching. Not sure where in store you could but some, I buy mine online!

The reason most people use copics is not because famous manga authors use them. It's because if you know what you are doing with them, then you can create some of the most professional looking illustrations out there. I would suggest investing in a colorless blender for your copics, they help the colors blend better.

Colorless blender is just a marker with no color, using it can really just get nice smooth shading and blending when you want to mix colors together. You can usually either color with it first then add in the colors after and watch as they blend together, or you can color things first and brush over with the colorless blender.

i love the little chibi at the front, too. XD
how many copics do you actually have, and what are the price ranges? [just wondering, sorry if i'm bothering you. .___.]

Kita-Angel In reply to MisoSoupChan--x [2010-05-20 02:59:11 +0000 UTC]
Thank you!
Don't worry, questions like that don't bother me. I think I have around 300+, some doubles since I had some from before, very very few, and then bought all 4 complete 72 markers sets.
ONE Copic Sketch marker all alone is about 7$-8$ CAD, and even if you buy them in the bigger sets, in store you won't save much. Ebay you can find good deals sometimes, really keeping in mind ONE is $-8$ so like a set of 24 Sketch can cost 170$, that's normal. But if you see it at lets say, 150$, then trust me, it's a deal. For the BIG 72 marker sets, there's a website, [link] and they are pretty much at 45% off. I kid you not.
Refills are like 5$-8$ each. Uhm the price is so random because here it depends on the store, bt the COOL thin is, one refill cartridge can fill up the marker about 7-8 times. WORTH YOUR MONEY at this point. I need to buy some refill ink as soon as I'm near a store that supplies Copics.
I bought mine there. After I got money from an insurance claim for being on sick leave for two months. They made a mistake and only gave me my money AFTER I got back to work, so I ended up with a normal pay plus a suddenly huge amount of money. I think that's the only reason for buying them all at once. I love them to bits though!

Haha you're very welcome!
And thankyou for all of the information, it's very much appreciated~!
I have no hope in ever getting COPICs unless I get a summer job... Maybe not even then..
I think I'm just going to stick with Prismas for practice, and maybe when I've got the gyst (sp?) of them, I'll try with the COPICs.
Thankyou so much again, I really appreciate it~!

Aww thanks! Actually Hikari is based off my cat, whose name is Etoile (Star in french) and she has pretty long fur and cute little eyes and ears.
And I'm glad that the tutorial was easy to understand! Yes, I showed the markers too. I really wanted to be able to show EVERYTHING!
Copics really are great! A good investment!

Thank you!
Copics and even just alcohol based markers can give a very interesting effect, they blend together so nicely, or even if you let them dry and continue it can give other interesting looks.
I'm glad that you found it useful though~
P.S. Thanks~~ <3

Thank you!
Even if it's not relevant to what you need to know, I'm still glad you think it's well done.
I was going to do a tutorial on black and white coloring soon (not sure when, so many tutorial topics to choose from!) so maybe that one would be more relevant
