Whew! I started this back before making this account. It was going to be my new icon, but I got in over my head and it took forever to finish. x'D I'm not really happy with it. I still have NO idea how to animate the background. It's spinning all over the place. It's also really jerky. But I am not going back and adding inbetween frames. Too much work. >> I'm just happy that it's reached an acceptable state of completion.Since I'm all too aware of the problems with this, I'm not going to ask for any critique. But if you have some specific advice on how to fix it, I welcome the help! For now it's as good as done.
** I think it was inspired by *khaosdog 's animated icons ([link] ). Which just goes to prove that simpler is better.
Darn.As for the subject matter, deserts and crows are important features of Klak Klak's backstory. :3 So I guess he's spending a little quality time with both.

I have to agree with everybody who said the lighting works extremely well indeed!
Being honest, with little things like this, I dunno that it matters it's slightly jerky, the overall effect is achieved nicely anyway!

This has made an amazing icon!
I think the glow really makes the atmosphere light and fresh. It does help pull things together. The only issue I have is that the crows approach after circling is really fast before the dive, and may have looked better slightly slower. It really turned out beautifully, though, well done.

What do you think would be better - adding an extra wing flap on the descent, or adding more frames to the existing flaps thus making them slower?

You shouldn't need more frames. Just slightly decreasing the frame rate/increasing the time an individual frame is visible should work fine. The animation is pretty smooth at that point, it's just really fast.

I just tried slowing those frames down to .15 and .2 seconds. Personally, I find that too jerky to be worth saving. But I think if I revisit this piece, I'll keep it in mind that I should add more frames to the descent.

I love the last few frames where it pans out, as you can see more of the desert. Really lovely job!

Thanks! That was the hardest part. P: I drew all the frames for Klak Klak and the crow before doing the background, and then I got all mixed up on how the hills and sun should move in relation to the camera.

holy wow this is quite amazing. adore the camera move and the glowyness, i never have understood how people can make things glow so prettily!

XD I didn't either until I tried it. I just made a layer over everything and used a really soft, low-opacity brush to apply the "light", then used a soft eraser to get rid of it where the bodies were in the way. It made it look so much better. The characters really didn't fit into the background until I made it all glowy. >>
