Hello and thanks for viewing my work. And an extra thanks to those who take the time to comment.

This image incorporates my Stardancer 01 dynamic outfit, my photo studio (currently under development), and the most detailed postwork I've done in a bit. I painted over the hair. Even Wild Hair can benefit from touching up, great as it is. I also touched up the anatomy, which I do far too rarely. I really need to get better at both painting and sculpting anatomy. The most time consuming thing I did was work at correcting the IDL blotches and unevenness. I'm really hoping Poser's version of GI improves in the future.

Even though all that's visible of the photo studio is the cyclorama, it has a whole set contributing to the reflections and ambient lighting. It also has some lamp meshes with lights attached that provide decent lighting. Bagginsbill's Environment Sphere and David Keyes's sky textures also contributed to the lighting.

Excellent image! It's a definite eye catcher.

I can't seem to find Wild Hair though, it looks amazing but it doesn't seem to be sold anywhere.

Oh, thank you!

Unfortunately, Wild Hair is no longer sold anywhere. As far as I've been able to tell, Digicalermo isn't selling anywhere, either. But if you wanted to look into it, you should probably get in touch with Neftis, who I think had a store with him once.

Love this. This is just the pose to show off the dynamic clothing you've built, especially the booties and the shorts. Love the way the dynamic material bends and folds. And I still absolutely love the materials on the clothes.

After our conversations, I messed around with some of my old dynamic clothes, and used much different settings for the sims. They're now less horrible than they used to be, so thanks for letting me bounce idea/complaints off of you.

Thanks! I think the poses for the other color schemes were a bit more dynamic, but that first blue one made the best image. This one was kind of a test of both the clothes and the studio. I think I should actually do some studio images of the red and black versions of my clothes soon. I was going through my work for examples of my hair shaders recently, and I realized that I do a lot more low light images than I thought. I kept thinking I was doing a lot more images like this one than I actually have. As a result, my intentionally dark works are too dark in general, and way too dark for showing things off. I need to come up with a suitable type of

I'm glad to be of some help! And I don't think your results ever looked horrible.

Sorry for the unfinished sentence. I need to come up with a suitable type of lighting for "goth" scenes. So far, my concept is _way_ too dark.

I'd definitely like to see the other versions of the suit. Now that you have the studio (a pretty good idea, actually), I'm sure you'll be able to create the lighting you want. With your studio, it's probably possible to mimic real-world fashion lighting solutions from layouts that show the studio setup.

Maybe "frustrating" is a better word because they were not the results I expected. And of course we just had the convo about people's expectations.

Oh, I totally know what you mean. I'm like that about hair, most of the time. If I had normal expectations of hair, I'd have made my own a long time ago. As it is, I'm eternally frustrated with both my own and other people's hair.

Yeah, the studio has proven very useful. That's actually what's been slowing me down. I keep using it rather than finishing it. That said, I haven't even tried my boom light yet. I have to give that a whirl soon. If it doesn't work well enough as a kind of spot light, I'm going to have to make the other light I was planning on.

Pretty convincing skin shading and nice deformation if you posed it afterwards. If she is jumping forward I don't see why the hair isn't flowing backwards thoguh.

Thank you! I'm not sure what you mean by "posed it afterwards," but V4 WM does pose and deform _very_ nicely. I highly recommend her. And her hair is like that because this is the apex of her leap. As seen in photos like this one . Also, because she's twisting to her right, her hair is trailing to her left.

Sorry, I mean that it's after the twist, so her hair is kind of snapping forward.

Absolutely fabulous! Great posing, render, and especially the cloth looks extremely realistic and very well done. Not sure exactly how much of this was accomplished with your post-work, and it doesn't really matter to me overall. The end result, which is what is important, is very pleasing. What is IDL? Isn't it IBL, or is that a Poser-specific acronym to their lighting solution? I really like your choice of materials here, and the detail in the clothing is really impressive. I'd love to see the "raw" render version, just to compare, and see what is possible directly from the Poser engine before post-processing began, but nonetheless great job on this piece.

kobaltkween In reply to LuxXeon [2012-09-20 17:59:47 +0000 UTC]

It's not exactly a Poser specific term. IDL is indirect diffuse lighting. Blender Internal has something with a similar label and function. IDL is basically Poser's term for GI, though I think GI is technically more robust. I'd really have to look up the specific definition, but I suspect there's some sort of specific difference that kept them from just calling it GI.

IBL, or image-based lighting, contributes to IDL. IBL used with IDL lights the scene as if a giant sphere with IBL image source as an ambient texture surrounds the scene. But it only affects the diffuse shading. Using an actual environment sphere- a big sphere around your scene with an ambient texture on it- will give the same sort of lighting as IBL and contribute to reflections. And it renders in the background. In this situation I used bagginsbill's Environment Sphere and some great free skies I found though a Blender Cookie tutorial (they're awesome). I'm making my own environment prop because I want something that doesn't distort the image as much at the poles (top and bottom of the sphere), but that's only because this set has a skylight roof option that made the distortion apparent. It's rare that you see a render with that much sky.

Since the studio will come out before I finish my environment, I'm going to link to free ones people can use. If you (or anyone else reading this!) know of any that come with textures, please let me know.

You can see the original in the preview images of the product . All my preview images are as free from postwork as I can make them. Sometimes I find it's quicker to do an area render than a whole render, and I'll layer the images (Poser's area render leaves a 1 px edge on the right and bottom), but that's about it. I never adjust levels or do anything that that would affect the product.

It's funny. Even though I did more postwork on this than I have in a while, I doubt anything but the hair will leap out at you. A surprising amount of that work was just cleaning up the IDL. It's good in general, but given a smooth, single color surface, its weaknesses become more visible.
