Another tutorial in my ongoing review of my anatomy notes. The same as before, the info is compiled from Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist by Stephen Rogers Peck as well as notes from Aaron Board's (www.aaronboard.com ) Figure Anatomy class at Ringling.Related content

Ha ha, I love the 12 pack comment. I am a theater student, and my guy friend played Lun Tha, from The King And I, and spent the entire show in an open vest with his chest bared. Since he is averagely built and lacking the six pack, they drew on muscle cuts to make him look ripped. We did 3 dress rehearsals and 5 shows. First dress, he had four distinct cuts. By the third show, the boy had a purple 14 pack ad looked up close as though he had been stepped on by really big shoe tred.

Aw, but I liked the ribs!
Strange habits aside, I love this tutorial. Not only does it contain vital information, it also delivers it in a clean-cut, concise way without breaking off into meaningless monologue because words are pretty. Like so.
The extra footnotes and such make for a nice comedy touch, as well.
The only thing I might complain about is the comparison with 'proper' saw-teeth vs. ribs is that I had to look twice before I realised you weren't talking about the hip bone. Of course, that was before I read the nice text next to it, but you could still... make the point the centrepiece.
Nonetheless, I thank you and commend you for your good work.

Forgive me if this comes across as hostile; it's not meant to. I know text can communicate in odd ways with no voice behind it.
I went back and looked at the section of the tutorial you were talking about. How were you confusing the saw-teeth with the hip bone? Those drawings don't even include the hip. The section is already titled "The Serratus Anteriors" and, well... the text is there for a reason. lol If you're talking about the X and check mark, I had to place them in an area that would immediately convey that they were labeling that particular drawing and not the one next to it. I don't see how I could make it any more clear/centerpieced. The text does that; I wouldn't have put it there if I didn't mean for it to be read. : P
Thank you about the rest, though.

No, no, I thought it was funny.
Pardon me, I wasn't too clear on that point I guess. What I was confusing myself with was thinking that you were speaking about the waist area since my eyes were drawn to the big, shiny symbols. The way to make it clearer would involve cutting off more of the lower torso, but then again, this shows how it all fits together.
You're welcome.

ooh awesome guide/tutorial very useful information! going into my faves collections.
i have that same book but i was never able to get through it because i didn't understand how to asses the materials. i wasn't sure if i was supposed to read through the chapters or draw the models, so i never managed to utilize the book. -.- can you help me please?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
KrisCynical In reply to sourMELK [2009-10-08 20:23:03 +0000 UTC]
Really you should just read the book and observe the images, particularly the artist sketches. Practicing by drawing the muscle maps wouldn't hurt, but I really can't say what would work best when you're using the book and that's it. When I was using that book we were having lectures every week along with drawing a live model.
