Description
Winter wonderland conditions on the Settle - Carlisle line on 2nd of February 2019 as 'B1' 4-6-0 No. 61306 'Mayflower' double-heads with 'Merchant Navy' No. 35018 'British India Line' on the southbound 'Cumbrian Mountain Express'.
BR [LNER] 61306, painted in LNER apple green livery which is a fictional livery as it was built after British Rail had been formed from the Big Four fusion in 1948. Built by North British Locomotive Company of Glasgow in April 1948.
The LNER B1 Class 4-6-0 locomotives were of a 410 member class from 1942 to 1952. British Rail was formed on January 1948. 61306 had three different sheds during its BR life time to call its own, Hulls (two locations) and Bradford. The locomotive was withdrawn from service in 1967. Bought for preservation and relocated to Steamtown Carnforth, while there repainted into the LNER apple green livery and number 1306 and given the name 'Mayflower'.
In 1978 relocated to the Great Central Railway and work there until 1989, being taken out for its ten year boiler service / overhaul. And then after a failed deal, relocated to Nene Valley Railway.
Sold privately by the Boden family in 2006 to David Buck and relocated to a new home on the North Norfolk Railway, and a restoration for main line running, its first since the mid 1970s.
After another overhaul, you get what is seen above with its return of pulling the 'Cumbrian Mountain Express' named train with 'British India Line'.
[I will add the details on BIL tomorrow.]
