Description This is a part of the same supercell thunderstorm I photographed here, but taken several miles east: [link]

This picture was taken in western Oklahoma, somewhat under the band of warm, moist air flowing into the the heart of the storm. I parked on the side of the road and scampered into the adjacent wheat field. In this picture you can see how the air is beginning to wrap counter clockwise into the area where the wall cloud has formed and where the moist air is spiraling upward. The column of rain that you see is caused by the moist air spiraling upward and condensing into droplets and/or hail and then falling back to the surface. You cannot see the lowering wall cloud since it is on the other side of the column of rain, but a picture of the actual wall cloud will be coming soon!

The power of the nature is scary, beautiful the cloud in the middle, dividing good and bad weather, the movement of the field gives the idea to be there in the storm.

WOW! I'd be stopping to take pictures of that too!

We're there any tornadoes from this storm?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kylewright In reply to AngelKate [2009-05-27 19:43:35 +0000 UTC]

I think this one possibly produced one after dark during the late evening. The town that was hit either had straight line winds or a tornado. Last I had heard, they were trying to confirm if one did in fact occur.

I think I'd be on my way home if I saw that, not out in the middle of a field taking pictures. Kudos to you for knowing how these storms work and being able to safely get such remarkable shots like this.
