Description
180 degree, north to south panoramic photo of the base of a supercell thunderstorm in western Oklahoma. In this photo, you can see more of the counter clockwise 'hook echo' or circulation of a wall cloud. The distinct lowering can be seen peaking out from behind the column of rain. I am really pleased with how these shots turned out and the color really is amazing. On one side there are the warm highlights from the sunset and on the other side are the cool colors cast in the shadow of the strengthening storm. There is probably some science associated with this, but my parents and their parents before them have always said, "that if the clouds appear greenish in tint, there is hail on its way!" And let me tell you that this is definitely true with this storm! You can see some of the aqua green in some of the clouds on the left half of the picture. Here are other pictures of the same storm: [link] & [link]

and think of the size. so large, yet such a tiny peak of the grand weather flowing across the globe. surely, they are as gods to us, touching lightly with their fingers.

Last time we had green clouds it was a tornado... Now I'm paranoid of green clouds...
(Okay, there WAS some hail first. That might have been the real reason for being green.)
That said... that's a helluva shot. (I guess it really is Big Sky Country out there!)

A rare shot, too perfect on the timing and positioning. I bet within minutes this formation
had up and gone after you took it.

I see it all. Man what I would give to take a summer to go storm chasing...
This is a very brilliant and fantastic capture and a prime display of nature's fury right before it is unleashed upon us mortals.

This is as educative as it is captivating. A fascinating example of the wonders of nature. I can only imagine what it must have felt like to witness it firsthand.

o-o That's...awesome. (Not in the modern sense of the word.)
How did you take that picture without screaming giddily and running the other way?!

Well, I must say that the moment I converged and caught up with it and found a good place to stop, I knew I had something special! The green of the wheat fields, the yellow glow of the sunset and the color of the clouds really made me feel like I was in the right place at the right time. It was very awe inspiring, amazing, and scary to be in the open and literally feel this mass baring down closer and closer!

Is this pretty much a 180 degree view? Like the power lines on the left would actually be behind the camera for most of the images and continue on in the other direction with those on the right.

You are right! This is a full 180. The left is directly north and the right is directly south.

Wow! Awe-inspiring image. The true power of a storm can never actually be known until you've experienced it. I live in Florida, and I want to get some images (as soon as i can, and safely) of storms rolling in over the ocean.

Breathtaking, and a little disorientating. I'm not accustomed to loops in my vision.
