Description
180 degree, north to south panoramic photo of the base of a supercell thunderstorm in western Oklahoma. In this photo, you can see more of the counter clockwise 'hook echo' or circulation of a wall cloud. The distinct lowering can be seen peaking out from behind the column of rain. I am really pleased with how these shots turned out and the color really is amazing. On one side there are the warm highlights from the sunset and on the other side are the cool colors cast in the shadow of the strengthening storm. There is probably some science associated with this, but my parents and their parents before them have always said, "that if the clouds appear greenish in tint, there is hail on its way!" And let me tell you that this is definitely true with this storm! You can see some of the aqua green in some of the clouds on the left half of the picture. Here are other pictures of the same storm: [link] & [link]

Did it really change so suddenly like this? It seems so surreal man. Great shots of such a crazy clash of contrast and nature.

I don't know if I would say it changed suddenly. I think from the time the storm really formed to when I took this photo was maybe 2 to 2 1/2 hours and 10 to 12 miles??? There is definitely a noticeable steady increase in intensity when the elements are right.

I stand corrected since I've looked at this again, I guess it was just the colours that made me say that last time. Again, an excellent put together.

No worries! These things do build up fast for a thunderstorm. It was neat to look across the horizon and see these things sprouting up like mushrooms!

Yeah man, it really does look like an amazing sight to see, and capture! Sorry if this is mentioned in your comments, but how many images is this stitched together? lol
