Description 180 degree, north to south panoramic photo of the base of a supercell thunderstorm in western Oklahoma. In this photo, you can see more of the counter clockwise 'hook echo' or circulation of a wall cloud. The distinct lowering can be seen peaking out from behind the column of rain. I am really pleased with how these shots turned out and the color really is amazing. On one side there are the warm highlights from the sunset and on the other side are the cool colors cast in the shadow of the strengthening storm. There is probably some science associated with this, but my parents and their parents before them have always said, "that if the clouds appear greenish in tint, there is hail on its way!" And let me tell you that this is definitely true with this storm! You can see some of the aqua green in some of the clouds on the left half of the picture.

Here are other pictures of the same storm: [link] & [link]

I wished there were more of them in Oklahoma this year...seemed to be a little more quiet than usual.

It has been my pleasure for my eyes to land on such a work of art. Colors, location, mood and atmosphere all come in to play and create a extraordinary effect. It truly is great inspiration.

It was quite the scene to take in. It really made me feel small and feeble.

Kyle, can you make this larger? I need to officially ask ya, just doing my job

FAQ #3: Is there a minimum size requirement for deviations being submitted to the Photography galleries?

kylewright In reply to kkart [2009-05-19 18:20:58 +0000 UTC]

The new one I uploaded is around 51.3 MB.

The image I'm uploading is 16.5 inches x 51 inches at 300 dpi (4950x15300)...

kkart In reply to kylewright [2009-05-20 14:27:34 +0000 UTC]

Weird, I wonder if maybe it is to big? The preview here is what needs to be the minimum 400px, if you click edit to the left of the deviation, on the page that opens, there will be a drop down menu where you can select the image size. Do you see it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

kylewright In reply to kkart [2009-05-20 17:36:22 +0000 UTC]

Gotcha-that fixed it! I guess I was being too stingy on the preview size cause I was afraid someone might try to download and use...

Some say guts others say stupidity! lol It wasn't too bad, I just had to make sure I was paying attention to my surroundings and the movement of the storm. Since it was moving away from me, I was relatively in a safe spot.
