Description
Well, I finally finished this one! It took a lot longer than expected and I had a difficult time settling on a background. After 3 attempts, I finally decided to go with this one. I spent more hours than I care to try to estimate, but hopefully it payed off. Dimensions are 42 inches W x 22 inches H, at 300 dpi and this was painted in Photoshop. This is a B-17G Flying Fortress, christened as 'Thunderbird', from the WWII era. I used a photograph I took of the plane at an airshow as reference.

Beautiful! I doubt there is a better image of a Fortress out there. This one is perfect. The setting, the graceful lines, the mood; all of it comes together perfectly.

This is really beautiful! I love the sun rays coming in through the clouds and the coloring of the plane blows my mind. Absolutely stunning piece!

Wonderful colour work in the clouds - I particularly like how you've created the light shafting through.
Nice job.

Thank you! This one was a bit of a beast to tackle. I always seem to stress over getting the sky and the clouds to look good.

Yeah I always find clouds difficult - they always end up looking too flat to me, too two-dimensional. I also have trouble with getting their fluffyness right.

That would be cool! Thank you very much for the suggestion! Digital painting of these classic warbirds are something that I love doing as a personal project, so to get a DD would be amazing!
