Description
Apparently, all of a sudden, .gif files are not allowed for tutorials. What the hell? Then make it possible to have preview images! -is mad now-I find myself again doing a tutorial.
Sorry, but this time it really isn't funny. x3; I genuinely want people to actually learn how to critique.
So, I hope that you enjoy it, and learn a thing or two about critique. ;D It helps to -cough- spread it around too.
Not enough thumbnail space!

I just came across your tutorials today. I like your tutorials with their mixture of text and images. And this one is helpful, indeed (although I already knew what you're telling in it, even though I should comment and critique more often ). Keep them on!

Ahh Im glad you made a tutorial like this!!! XD
Especially that bit about reading the artist comments...
.... I do a lot of sketchy stuff, and I usually say that its a SKETCH in the description, and write the word "sketch" in the title. I have had a surprising amount of people telling me it looks too sketchy and to clean up my lineart Um, hello? WHAT lineart???
Seriously.
OMG the sky is looking a bit too blue today, tsk tsk God~! D:<

wow. I like these tutorials! they show a general mastery of the deviantart techniques such as commenting and critiquing(be that the spelling of critique+ing?). Also, the first couple were funny and the last two were ironic, which is just another kind of funny...thanks for all the help! Now I'll be a better deviant, or at least a better informed one.
btw, bocker22 is the cause of me visiting your page, but my comment is the effect.
moar tutorials!

this is truly an useful tutorial, sometimes I want to comment on the works I see but I don't know what to say, and I dont want to just write "ohmygod it's cool" or something like that so I don't write anything at all, but I'll try to comment better now, thanks!

Ah! You beat me to it. xD I was planning on making a tutorial like this at some point because I just get so tired of people leaving dumb, unhelpful comments on my art...or instead of commenting, they fav it.
I'd rather have helpful comments and critiques than all the favourited pieces in the world. The other problem is people asking questions that are answered in the Artist's Description of the piece. The Artist's Descrip area isnt just there for kicks, its there so people will read it and more thoroughly comprehend the situation/scene.
I took Creative Writing class for 2 years and in that time learned how to actively critique not only poetry and prose but how to expand my horizons to critiquing art. I take great joy in leaving really long comments on people's art because there arent that many people out there who do do that and thus is makes the artist feel special that someone opted to take the time and EFFORT to closely examine their artwork and type out everything they are thinking.
Sure, clicking the fav button is easier And saying random things like "green kimono" on a photo of a girl wearing a green kimono is logical. It's ridiculous because if you took the time to VIEW the person's art/writing, then you should take the time to UNDERSTAND it and tell the author/artist his/her thoughts.
Oh and if I may..... so more people can understand "How To Critique" Can I make a version of this myself, using your text? I'll credit you in the artist notes, of course.

I totally know what you mean about the artist's description. Sometimes someone will be so confused about the piece, simply because they needed the description down below... Artist's descriptions are also there to help steer morons away from some pieces.
I try to leave longer comments when I can, but when I don't have the time, I leave a short comment, especially if I am going to fave it. Some artists who receive like, no comments or faves, really appreciate those who can take the time.
What do you mean by making a version of it? If I'm credited, I'm sure it's fine, but I'm not sure what you mean. ^^
