Kitvoren are a man-made species of feral monsters, created from the DNA of various existing animals and all bundled together with the help of some good ol' fashioned radioactive materials. Originally the Creators had intended to amass this army of monsters to take over the world and destroy anyone who opposed them. But despite their impressive 30-year run as essentially god, they became overconfident and as a result of the Kitvoren's taunting, clumsy, which ultimately caused their downfall and the escape of the species into the world. After that, they were able to choose if they wanted to live a life of destruction as was intended for them, or if they wanted to live peacefully (with or without humans).

Primarily quadruped, but can walk on their hind legs for short periods of time if desired. Due to their radiation and the bits of human DNA in their bodies, they're also able to slightly shapeshift with limited range, taking on anthro forms, humanoid forms, or a horrific in-between.

A Kitvoren's face is rounded and smooth with no snout or muzzle. It's made of a skull-like material that is still able to flex and move as if it were simply very stiff skin, letting a Kitvoren blink, snarl, and smile.

The eyes are not true eyes, but they also aren't hollow sockets. The indent on the skull is bowl-like in shape, and only sinks a few inches into the head. Its dark colouration (and some odd optical illusions thought to be related to their radiation) create the illusion of the eyes being much deeper and darker than they really are.

One of a Kitvoren's most defining yet least understood features is the five retractable spikes that run along the spine. There are always three on the neck and two on the lower back near the tail, but other than intimidation scientists have not come up with a practical reason for these spikes to exist. All that is know for sure is that obstructing the spikes often results in irritated or violent reactions from the Kitvoren.

While most commonly red due to their majority-mammalian genetics, Kitvroen's blood can be any solid colour, even black or white. The same is true for the inner teeth, bones, retractable spikes, flesh and organs. However, teeth that extend from the skull default to the skull's colour, which is typically very light.

Kitvoren have a secondary circulation within their bodies in addition to their blood circulation. Affectionately called "Atomic Soup", this substance is a type of extremely radioactive fluid absorbed into the Kitvoren's body during their gestation period. This fluid is the reason for a Kitvoren's unnatural speed, strength and healing. It's also the cause of the many odd mutations found across individuals in the species.

This fluid can be expelled from a Kitvoren's mouth in the form of a plasma ball nicknamed "Atomic Breath". It's considered their strongest ability, though it is rarely used since it tires them out so quickly and hinders their healing and strength for a short time. Fun fact: having Kitvoren use their Atomic Breath, causing their internal radiation levels to lower prior to x-rays and MRIs, was the only way to see their internal systems through scanning. Otherwise, the machines were unable to pick up on anything past the intense radiation.

When near high external radiation, the Atomic Soup will glow white, green or yellow. This shows mainly through a Kitvoren's eyes, causing them to glow brightly the closer it gets to radioactive areas. In some Kitvoren, this glow is also visible elsewhere on the body, though it's rare (and in these cases the colour of the glow may be different). The radiation of other Kitvoren doesn't seem to cause this effect, though, and cannot be triggered by the Kitvoren itself on purpose.

Atomic Soup is critically important for a Kitvoren's growth. As mentioned above, a Kitvoren absorbs this fluid during their growth in the gestation tanks, but the existence of the fluid in the tanks had a different purpose originally. It acted as a coolant and a stabilizer to manage the radiation within a Kitvoren's body until it was grown enough to manage it by itself; otherwise, the instability could cause damage ranging from fatal mutations to enormous explosions. This is why a Kitvoren can't be removed from its tank until it wakes on its own, as that's the only way to know for sure that it's stable.

Growth Stages

Stage 1:
The Kitvoren has started to become recognizable. Its head is formed and small limbs can be seen. Its body is still tiny, squishy and hairless. At this stage, the mouth, eyes, ears, tail and spikes have not formed yet.

Stage 2:
Parts of the body are becoming the proper textures, such as the skull-like face and the small bumps along the spine that will eventually become retractable spikes. The limbs and neck are more prominent and proportioned, and the mouth is formed, including teeth. It's at this stage that mutations usually start to form, slightly earlier than any other traits.

Stage 3:
Almost there! This is the stage where a Kitvoren begins growing its traits. Its fur grows in, its ears, hands and feet are finished forming, and the eye indent on its skull is starting to appear. The spikes are not sharp yet but they're getting there. Though it may look mostly complete at this stage, the Kitvoren still can't be removed from the tank.

Stage 4:
The Kitvoren is nearly complete. Everything is fully formed and fleshed out. All traits are now visible. The only thing left to do is wake it up; but that must be done by the Kitvoren itself. Once awake and showing signs of movement, the Creators would tranquilize the Kitvoren and remove it afterwards. Post-escape, they find their own way out or are assisted by scientists or other Kitvoren.
