Gosh, Hester's mom looks familiar...wonder who she could be. 
I was initially scared about working on backgrounds for this page...until I actually started drawing them and went "huh, this isn't so bad." This chapter is very background-intensive as it progresses (the location will be shifting within the next few pages), so I'm trying out some new techniques with them, such as drawing them traditionally then scanning them in so I won't go bonkers trying to digitally make background lineart. 
I also got to visit a friend from college on Monday and we had a lot of fun talking about our respective stories, which included Maelstrom spoilers (she's the only one who's read the scripts for all four chapters, so she knows what's happenin next

Their house seems so cosy, but a bit lonely I think. I'm liking the earthy colours going on in this chapter, all the greens are lovely, and I like how you shaded Hester's mum's dress.
Hester's comment reminds me of that quote from Marie in the Aristicats www.viralviralvideos.com/2015/…

Thanks! My chapter color palettes are always a surprise for me since I come up with them on the fly; they all inevitably get to a rusty/orange section though. xP
Haha! It's been ages since I've seen that movie!
Including the barn was a little nod to 'The Iron Giant,' and the scenery was inspired by the foothills around here (there's a lot of lonely houses sitting in the middle of Nowheresville).

Mystery woman = some sorta tie to Trenton... I'm pretty sure of it. Also might explain both Hester and Trent having Magical Powers! Can't wait to see this play out.
The backgrounds look really good, they'll just get easier for you as you continue. Also a nice looking background in the sneak peek, I want to learn more about the vehicles in the world of Maelstrom. And yes, "art of" books are the best! XD

Backgrounds look great! That tree looks delicious, haha! I do that exact thing too, drawing the lineart traditionally... when I feel like it. Usually I just completely bypass background lineart and wing it.

Thank you! I included the apple tree because we have a scraggly one in our yard--this is what it aspires to be. lol I started winging the bg lineart within the last few pages of chapter four, just out of time/necessity's sake.
