Description Godzilla / ゴジラ

ZBrush 4, Photoshop CS4, Vue 8, Photography
Sculpting Approx 40-60 hours, Photoshop works 10-12 hrs

The model used here is the same as used from ([link] ) the one affectionately nicknamed Fatzilla or Lardzilla by some. This presentation is created to give the design a closer look, where as the one in the link is part of my fan art series monster profiles.

The Godzilla character has changed over the years, from being man made disaster to an environmental friendly monster. From an anti hero to saviour of earth. From being creature who became a father figure to becoming a supernatural creature who is brought to life by angered spirits.
His appearance has also changed but he's always retained the distinct mutated heavily scaled dinosaur look with spiky dorsal fins (or spines) and a long powerful tail.
His size has fluctuated over the years from 50m tall to becoming 100m then 55 then back up to 100. His abilities and weaknesses have also varied over time.

As an artist, i took the freedom to design and create my version of this popular Japanese iconic monster, but also keeping the key characteristics that make a Godzilla design.

The design is heavily inspired from the Heisei Godzilla Suit (1990s). It is the Godzilla that i grew up with, as an artist. I admired his size, power, his unique proportions, the super long heavy tail (that constantly moves as if it had its own mind, perhaps its his 2nd brain (GvsMGII)), the facial expressions...The texture and armor is influenced from crocodilians and The Millennium G-Suit (2000), a sea-monster inspired creature design. The anatomical base structure is heavily drawn from theropod fossils, as Godzilla is a dinosaur. I have deliberately chosen to avoid the 'humanoid' rubber dinosaur suit direction that we are all so familiar and accustomed to, which the Japanese are the pioneers and ultimate masters of the daikaiju genre.

As always I appreciate your time and effort taken in leaving any comments and criticisms.

Your kaiju designs look like concept arts for a CGI movie and a Kaiju fighting videogame for PS3.

Congratulations Man!!

While the sheer girth of the tail caught me by surprise, I found it to be perect for his size and as his weapon, to balance what must be a very heavy build. Nice work!!

thanks. i like the tail to be more used often.

was watching videos of how some crocs use their tail to fend of attackers. its awesome...

Saurianpride In reply to ??? [2011-03-13 02:27:48 +0000 UTC]

As a take off from the Heisei design, it's not terrible. It doesn't look capable of doing anything but lumbering around shooting energy weapons and maybe slowly bumping into other monsters, so you've pretty much got the Heisei fighting style down pat. Not a fan of the avian posture, but that great skin texture more than makes up for it. Also digging the face.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LDN-RDNT In reply to Saurianpride [2011-03-14 23:46:01 +0000 UTC]

hey man. thanks for the comment.
Hhe wont really be lumbering, he is chunky and massive but with abnormal nuclear energy he would be a bit more active. in analogy to big wrestlers like Bam Bam Bigelow or even Yokuzuna. so that really justifies and contributes to the fantasy-fiction elements. the main difference from the heisei is that this one is going to be more active and faster but not as fast as Zilla, and will be clumsy.

body slams will be done by 'bite-grab-hold'ing an opponent and smashing it to the ground.

cheers man.

Ok, since I was one of those guys who said I hated the design, but now like it, I am going to give a more thorough critique about it.

This "Lardzilla" is basically a good idea over all. I think what turned me around was the fact that I could see it like a sumo wrestler, throwing his weight around. Godzilla doesn't always have to be a fast and agle kaij all the time.

I like the overall design and appeal of this design. I know someone else post that it looks like a bunch of rocks, but I have to disagree. It feel likes a reptile to me, not a bunch of rocks.

I also like the variety on the attacks. I have a similar idea for my Monsturra character.

i guess some first impressions don't last. A lot of people had similar reactions too.
Thanks for the appreciation. Thanks jacob.

Your monsturra character/creature i find interesting. maybe ill do my take of him if i find time, if you don't mind.

Oh, this is a very nice design . The only thin I could see being altered a little -in my opinion- would be the legs, a bit too stubby for Godzilla I think.

Again, an amazingly done redesign of Godzilla. The additional views really help with visualizing this scaly powerhouse dive into a squad of unsuspecting Xilian Orga cyborgs.

I especially love that "fatal bite", I'm really surprised it hasn't shown up anywhere else before.
