Description
"Great, now there's two of them!"Yeah, so after comparing the different comps, I decided the first four of them just weren't up to standards with the new ones, most of the creatures on them being very small and leaving a ton of wasted space. So I decided to redo them. Note that I do not plan on redoing all of them, only 1-4 and 12. I'm actually surprised i was able to fit almost all of them on this, I thought for sure that I as going to have to remove three or four of them. But after several attempts, only one creature from the original, the snail thrush, wasn't able to fit, which is way better than what I was expecting. I'll either move the snail thrush to the comp three redo (two was also filled up pretty quick) or the next comp. All in all I'm pretty happy with this, my only gripe being the empty space above Scycrow (#1) and the snowykeet's face (#11).
You can see the original here: Creature Compilation Round 1
Originally I was planning to just do an update to the original, but honestly they're so incredibly different I figured it was best to keep the updated comp separate.
For those who haven't been following the series, the Creature Comps are a group of penned creatures either from my main projects (Galena Fakedex, Pterraforming, Lucid, a Terraria thing, and Wings) or fan art of other people's creatures from their own projects. Think of it as a sample tray for my/other's projects. It should be noted that, unless an "official" version of a creature is posted before the comp itself, all the designs in the comps aren't set in stone and may be different in their final version.
So with that said, let's get right to it!
F = Fakemon, P = Pterraforming, L = Lucid, R = Requests or fan art (Mostly fan art, F was already taken), T = Terraria, W = Wings
1: [Fakemon] Scycrow, a new Fakemon for the Ferros Region. Scycrow is based on the stereotype of crows stealing crops, and uses its blade wings to harvest crops for themselves. Scycrow would be a non-evolving, non-legendary fakemon and will be a Dark/Flying type. Scycrows would be cousins of the Murkrow line.
2: [Pterraforming] The colossal wanderer, a sea pteranosimian that happens to possess the longest wingspan of any pterosaur ever to live. These massive pterosapians live their entire lives in the open ocean, almost never coming to land. Colossal wanderers can spend months at a time flying, even being able to sleep on the wing by using unihemispheric slow-wave sleep, aka resting one half of their brain at a time. Wanderers are also expert swimmers, with unusually large hind legs that allow bird levels of buoyancy and ridges along their wings and chest that help stabilize them in the water.
3: [New] [Pterraforming + Lucid] Lobe sided planaria, the bane of Pterearthian aquarium enthusiasts everywhere. Much larger and much more aggressive than the common variety of planaria found in fish tanks, these large flatworms can grow up to two inches in length, and pose a serious risk to fish and inverts alike. Lobe sides are active predators, and will hunt down anything that comes their way. On the flip side, lobe sides display remarkable regenerative abilities, like all flat worms, and will even purposely reproduce via division, pieces of the body breaking off and then generating into a new worm. Because of this, H. unlikelus scientists have been studying them for years.
4: [Lucid] A male fairy or fairfolk. Extremely small and easily mistaken for an ordinary insect, Fairfolk live among the tall grass and live fairly secret lives. Males are smaller than females, and can be seen dancing and courting to the female if one is lucky enough to find a fairy grove. However, males must be careful, as sometimes the females will decide to kill and eat them if they aren't swayed by the dance. Despite this, fairies are actually extremely intelligent and form loose societies, and can even communicate and talk to humans. That is, if the humans hearing is good enough to puck up their very quite voices. Being small and extremely delicate, fairies are often preyed upon by other insects or spiders.
5: [Fakemon] A yet unnamed scarecrow Fakemon for the Ferros Region, the counterpart and natural adversary of Scycrow. This fakemon would carry around the pole they use to hang in fields as a weapon, able to split it to dual wield while fighting. They also may trade these poles out with tools such as hoes or rakes for use in farm related work. Because of their hatred of Scycrow and their ability to hang motionless in fields when not battling, these Pokemon are popular among farmers. They can also aid in other work around the farm, hence the need to carry tools. Because these Pokemon are essentially haunted scarecrows they never tire and can easily out compete any human in the field. This Pokemon will probably be ghost/fighting.
6: [Lucid + Pterraforming] The punchbug, a small true bug with tiny white punching front legs. From afar it looks a bit like a tiny crab. Punchbugs feed predominantly on species of woodlice, flipping them over with powerful punches from their front legs akin to a tiny mantis shrimp. Flipped prey is then held down and skewered in the soft underbelly with the punchbugs tough proboscis. Being a type of stinkbug, punchbugs can spray a foul smelling liquid when threatened, along with giving a painful venomous bite if needed.
7: [Lucid] A Whiscandal mid-transformation between its base form and unleashed form. Whiscandals are one of the three primary dog monsters in Lucid, the other two being Chowmoochows and Pootalmetos. Unless facing directly away from someone, their large eyes always remain visible on the face, always following the player in an icy death stare. This is dangerous, as locking eyes with a Whicsandal for more than a few seconds is fatal. Dog monsters would be the second most common type of monster, beaten out only by the driverless monster cars, the Poleecers, and are extremely aggressive towards players.
You can read more about Whiscandals here: Lucid - Monsters Page 2 (Dog Monsters)
8: [Lucid + Pterraforming] The false tick or tick spider, an inch long species of spider. Easily mistaken for a tick, the two can be distinguished by the false tick's presence of eyes and more divided body segments. Like ticks, false ticks have an extremely tough carapace, helping protect them from crushing. This is useful for their lifestyle of living under bark on dead trees, feeding on the many critters hiding underneath.
9: [Fan art] :zebG :'s character Manu, a hybrid between many different types of hoofed mammals and the stereotypical "pturdadackdul". Considering I'm a ptero-nerd and a fan of chimera concepts, I couldn't not draw him.
You can find more information on Manu here: Manu Redesign
10: [Fakemon] The basic stage of #5's fakemon, also unnamed at this point. Like its evolution this small fakemon can wield the pole it hangs from as a weapon, which it uses to help fight off flocks of Starly and Scycrow. Farmers often keep these Pokemon around as farmhands, as they are skilled with farm tools and never tire. When not at work, these pokemon hang from their poles absolutely motionless, only moving to defend themselves or the crops they guard. This fakemon will probably be ghost/fighting.
11: [Lucid + Pterraforming] The thorn-legged snowykeet, a North American parrot closely related to the Carolina parakeet. During the summer, flocks of snowykeets live on the high arctic, feeding on the abundant grass seeds of the tundra and nesting on the open ground. Snowykeets then retreat to the temperate forests of eastern North America during the winter, where they feed mostly on buds, twigs, and frozen fruits. To protect themselves and their nests from the many predators they face, snowykeet possess sharp, keratinous spines on their legs, which they can either expose by rolling onto their backs with their legs in the air or by flailing them at attackers while in flight.
12: [Pterraforming] Snail monkeywing, a European monkeywing specializes in eating the many snails native to the continent. Armed with an elongated toe claw, a highly recurved, barbed beak tip, a hinged lower mandible, and a highly dexterous tongue, the snail monkeydon makes quick work of any soft bodied snail it comes across. While snails are normally pulled from their protective shells before being consumed, sometimes the snail monkeywing will simply crush the snail within its shell so that the valuable calcium within them can be absorbed.
